Q: How to install an underbody neon kit for a 1997 honda civic?
I have a 1997 honda civic ex Coupe and would like to know some instructions on how to install them.

A: To be honest, if you need instructions on how to do it you really shouldn’t be attempting it.

However, if you have your heart set on doing it yourself I won’t discourage you. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere right? =]

Firstly, it depends how you want them wired; on all the time, on with a switch, on with the headlights, on with the handbrake etc.

Firstly you need to find a mounting point that doesn’t inhibit any mechanical parts of the car. Don’t ask me where I read this, but I remember somewhere that it’s illegal for the actual light bar to be showing (depending on where you live the whole setup may be illegal, at the very least it will make you very attractive to police).

Then find a spot to run the wires where they won’t get in the way of anything and also won’t hang down. You’ll then need to splice off a wire that has constant power and find a ground that turns on and off with (whatever you want the lights turned on and off with).

Hey presto you’re all done! Make sure all wires are ziptied up and don’t get in the way of anything or the driver’s feet.

Q: I have a 1997 Honda Civic and i want to put new front and rear speakers in?
I have a 1997 Honda Civic and i want to put new front and rear speakers in. First i did not wanted to purchase expensive speakers, just mediocre ones that well sound better then the stock speakers in that car.

Please give make, model, and possibly address and where they should go on the car front or rear.

A: Use the site below for speaker selection.Enter year/make/model and everything that fits will pop up.Speakers are easy to install.A phillips screwdriver and a door panel tool will get you inside the front doors.Unscrew old speaker and replace with new.Factory wiring is single strand solid wire and not suited for high wattage applications!Buy speaker(pairs)on sale if you can and save.

Q: Replacing the Oxygen Sensor in a 1997 Honda Civic?
I need to replace the oxygen sensor in my 1997 Honda Civic. The location is as the front of the exhause manifold. I was looking at purchasing the part, but I am not sure what one to buy. Do I buy the the part specifying before catalyst, or after castalyst? I am assuming catalyst means catalytic convereter. Please help.
The sensor is integrated into the exhaust manifold.

Which part do I buy?
1. Before the cat converter
2. After the cat converter
My engine is the D16Y8.

A: jack the car up and make sure that it does not have both, some of these cars do run 2 of them, also make sure that the new ones have the same number of wires coming out of them as the old one’s.

Q: How do you change a cabin air filter in a 1997 Honda Civic DX?
I have a 1997 Honda Civic DX and I NEED to change the CABIN AIR FILTER. I don’t know where the filter is located, the manual I have dosen’t say, and I don’t know what air filter number or model I need. Remember 1997 four door Honda Civic DX

A: they dont come with a cabin filter
if u cheack like autozone or advance ill tell u

i have a 1997 honda civic ex which has 127hp stock and was wondering how much HP does a “type R” version of my car has.

A: 170-200 hp i would guess

Q: Where can I go to seek an Air Conditioning installation in my 1997 Honda Civic CX near Denver, CO?
I just bought a used 1997 Honda Civic CX hatchback and it does not have air conditioning. I know this installation is pricey, but I wanted a general idea of price ranges and WHO I can go to/call near Denver, CO to get a/c installed in my vehicle. Thanks in advance!

A: I used to install aftermarket A/C systems for all types of car and trucks in the past but don’t anymore due to (1) the cost and (2) the problems with installing the system in older cars and trucks.

The price will be in the area of around $1200.00 dollars and if you check the internet you will be able to find someone that will install it.

Once you have found someone email me with the price and I will tell you what you need to look for as well as what the installation place will need to look for and talk to you about…..

Q: Can a H22a motor from from a Prelude fit in a 1997 Honda Civic ek9?
Can a H22a motor from from a Prelude fit in a 1997 Honda Civic ek9?
and what all would you have to do to make it run?

A: Yes definitely. Its been done a million times already. You should register with some honda forums to get more info on this swap. honda-tech.com is a good start, although do your search there first before posting this question. You will get flamed for it.

Q: What are the wheel bolt patterns, back spacing, offset, is on a 1997 honda civic ex.?
Well what do i need to know to buy a new set of non stock wheels for a 1997 Honda civic ex coupe. I plan on buying someone a set for christmas.

Offset: 38mm

Q: My 1997 Honda Civic EX brake light comes on and off for no reason?
Can you tell me why my 1997 Honda Civic EX brake lights keep coming on (like as if I had the emergency brake locked). They come on when I start the car and then go off after driving for a while, but then go on and off, while the brake is never is even on?! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

A: Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. There is usually a float inside on most cars. If the level is low, it will trigger the light on the dash especially when stopping and driving or while cornering. You may want to have your brakes checked. When brake pads wear, the fluid level inside the master cylinder will get low.

Q: Rims for a 2001 Corolla off of a 1997 Honda Civic?
I recently purchased a set of rims off eBay for my 2001 Corolla LE, but found out later they were actually off of a 1997 Civic. Every thing’s the same (14 x 6 rim size, 4 x 100 bolt pattern) except for one slight detail: the center bore is 67.1mm on the rims (my Corolla’s center bore is 54.1mm). Can I still safely use the rims?

A: Yes. The lug nuts will center the wheel on the hub. You just need to make sure that the lug surface of the wheel will accept the lug nut that is on your car. If not you can buy some at the autoparts store that will.

Q: Rims for 2001 Corolla off of a 1997 Honda Civic?
I recently purchased rims off of eBay for a 2001 Toyota Corolla LE. I found out after the purchase they came off of a 1997 Civic. Every thing’s the same (14 x 6 diameter, 4 x 100 bolt pattern) except for one detail: the center bore is 67.1mm on the rims (Corollas have 54.1mm bores). Can I still use the rims?

A: Yes

Q: What size motor comes in a 1997 Honda Civic?
I was just givin a 97 honda civic that threw a rod out the block. I would like to use as much of the original motor as possible. What would be my options on what the block comes out of?
1.6L L4 PFI SOHC 16V is what showed up on the carfax report.

A: 97 civic didnt come with the b16 99-00 civic came with the b16 called the Si. It came with the D16 1.6L Block would be either the d16y7 or d16y8.
CX,DX,VP,LX=D16y7
EX= D16y8
You can find a d16y7 block for $150-$200 at a junkyard

Q: 1995 Honda Civic 2 door seats into a 1997 Honda Civic 4 Door?
I would like to put seats from a 1995 honda civic 2 door in a 1997 honda civic 4 door. Will they fit?

A: In short. Yes the brackets will fit and match up, but the coupe’s seats on a four door will be matched up funny since the back will be closer to the b-pillar over usual.

Q: Are 1997 honda civic dx known to have alot of electrical problems and have there ever been any recalls ?
My daughter has a 1997 honda civic dx and has had electrical problems fixed numerous times. Now she can’t play the factory installed cd player, turn the windshield wipers and the signal light on at the same time. The cd player will stop playing and the speedometer hand goes haywire.

A: I do remember hearing about the electrical starter switch, or starter something. I have a 2000 civic myself, and no problems yet. I did look up re-calls and I would also have your local mechanic check for you as well. You night have to have things re-wired all together . Sounds like someone messed it up, or things are short circuiting.

Q: I bought a used 1997 Honda Civic LX and have a question about the alarm.?
I don’t know what the option button is for.
Someone said the alarm is not from Honda factory???? But it say Honda on the label and have a big “H” under the panic button. Well the pad has four buttons – lock, unlock, panic and option (I just wanna know what “option” is). I’m afraid to press it then have something weird happen is all.

A: well if it Honda’s it can only open the trunk and lock unlock the doors and a panic button.Honda in the us had no other options for that remote.yes having an LX it was not a standard thing for security or remote entry it is an upgrade accessorie.

Q: value of used 1997 honda civic auto transmission?
recently got a rebuilt transmission that has 25000 miles on it cause my civic wouldnt shift into the next gear. I was wondering how much value would it add to my car since its considered a new transmission.

A: Probably nothing. The standard most people use to see what a car is worth is the Kelly Blue Book value. You can see what your car is worth based on series of questions here: http://www.kbb.com/kbb/UsedCars/default.aspx

Q: i have a 1997 honda civic ex, and want to buy a used 2006 honda civic ex?
my 1997 honda runs good, no problems it is salvage though, but good nonetheless, i just want a newer honda…tell me what you think as far as anything goes, like repairs, parts, recalls, stuff like that…

A: The new Civic EX is much more powerful, but not as reliable. Honda has really cut back on their standards. I also don’t like the seats of the new Civic, way too hard for long term traveling. I ended up buying a Corolla simply because of Hondas’ slipping reliability and Honda’s horrible seats.

Q: I own a 1996 Honda Civic can I use parts from 1997 Honda Civic for replacements?
I need a hood and grill for my car but before I buy something I shop around Craigslist, Ebay etc… I found this hood and grill for an excellent price I just need some feedback to know if its going to fit my car.

A: Yes.. same exact car..

Q: 1997 Honda Civic manual transmission – repair, replace or junk?
I have a 97 Honda Civic DX manual shift with just under 140k miles that the transmission is going in. My mechanic has suggested replacing the transmission with a used one over rebuilding (due to costs). I am trying to decide if it is worth putting all this money into a older car. What do you think, I am torn about what to do? Is it time to get rid of it before I have other problems or should I fix it up as best I can?

A: At 140k miles this car is still young, a used transmission is a good idea. Find one from a salvage yard that will give you a replacement warranty, check around some only give like if not work when installed they will exchange, some will give a longer warranty. Ask you mechanic what warranty he can get/give you for the replacement tranny. If wanting to trade remember about having a monthly car payment to make, are/can you afford to do that? If cost is that big of a factor it may be best to keep this car and get the little problems fixed.

Q: My 1997 Honda Civic jerks while accelerating and even while using cruise control, what could this be?
The car drives fine but at times, when I release the accelerator and gently push it again, it jerks. It also does the same thing when the car is in cruise control. I know the car needs an idle sensor…could this be the reason my car is jerking?
It’s a manual transmission

A: could be transmission

Q: What can i do to upgrade my 1997 Honda Civic EX?
Ok, i just bought a 97 civic as commuter car to go back and fourth to work, but i also have a thing for speed and a nice look. Does anyone has suggestions on performance upgrades? if so can you give me a list and name of product. also im used to driving my large V-8 so id like to know what kind of cars i can expect to outrun in this 1.6 haha thank you

A: If you got a thing for speed your going to want to do a swap. Get rid of the sohc turd engine. I would go for either b18c, or a H22 swap. You will get a little speed and keep the gas mileage. You will spend as much upgrading the turd as you will spend on a good swap kit just to get a little extra hp. You’ll also have room to grow. Good luck

Q: About how much would you think a honda civic from 1995 thru 1997 is worth used and about 130k miles on it?
I know theirs acouple of sites that can tell me the value but i want to ask the people, the car guys and ofcourse the experts on how much you think a regular honda civic between 1995 thru the 1997 with about 130k miles in 95% percent of good conditions with bearly little rust and clean exterior and intirior? and also say you were buying a honda civic between does years, about how many miles you will buy the car? less than 100k or between 100k and 150k?? well hope you guys can help! thanks!!

A: Go to:

www.kbb.com

Q: Where is the PCV valve located in a 1997 Honda Civic?
Do I have to use a jack or can I just change it by popping the hood?

A: On top, look for a tube from the valve cover to the air intake. Valve usually located at base of this tube.

Q: My Honda civic 1997 model, auto gear, I have a transmission problem, what will be the cost for repair?
I am looking to get me car repaired with used transmission, so just want to know how much it should cost me, I live in Washington DC. USA

A: A transmission swap will typically cost you between $700-$1000 if you’re using a used transmission.

Having the transmission rebuilt/a new transmission installed will typically double that cost.

Q: 1997 Honda Civic runs bad when ac is on idle?
My car runs perfectly when Im not using the AC.

the following happens when the AC is turned on:
-the car rattles badly when im about to stop.
-Car slows down, and speeds back up when I am accelerating.
-I have noticed that it is harder to accelerate when the AC is on.

The following does not happen when I am using the Heat.

A: Boo, i drive a 96 Honda Accord and have the same problem!

:D Hope it get fixed!

Q: Whats the best Honda to fix up?
So idk much about cars. But I want to get one. Hondas are nice. The thing that i dont get is that whats the difference inthe “ex” or “lx” or “dx”
Which one is better?
Whats the difference?
I saw a 1997 Honda civic ex for sale. about 3,000. only 97k miles. It looks pretty good. Is it worth fixing it up? are they fast? reliable? but yeah. whats the difference in the “ex” “dx” and “lx”?
thanks.

A: Crx Si, the more performance version of the group. They are good cars, very light weight and get phenomenal gas mileage. If you are looking for power, stock they don’t have much but after an engine swap and some performance mods these guys are really quick and fun. Make sure you get a manual, otherwise you look like a pussy… Have fun.

Q: 1994 Integra GSR or 1997 Honda Civic Ex?
Im getting a car soon and I found these two cars for sale. Ive narrowed it down to these two and I need someones opinion on whichones better. Like performance, and the looks of the outside and inside. This is what both the cars have.
http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/814609374.html
http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/844487434.html
Please let me know because this is goin gto be my first car. Thanks.

A: I have been working on and around cars for 12 years now, I am a car/honda guy i’ve owned 3 so far. I would go with the integra, the civic seems to have lots of potential problems. The fact its been wrecked is a big caution sign to me, as well as the use of cheap ebay parts. As far as performance the integra is hands down winner, b18 > d16.
Learn as much as you can about the cars from the owners, get any records or receipts you can see how they drove and took care of the cars. Ask when and how often oil changes have been done. Look at oil if it has metal shards stay away. See if you can have a mechanic look it over most will do so cheaply.
I’d look at the forums online like www.clubsi.com or www.hondatech.com there are lots of people with a lot of knowledge on there about the teg and civic.

Good luck

Q: How many miles is a 97 Civic good for?
There is a 1997 black honda civic coupe (5 speed stick) for sale with a price tag of $5000. It has all new aftermarket parts, but it has 130,000 miles on it, is it worth it? And, how many miles is this car good for?

A: That depends very much on how well maintained it has been. I have seen carefully maintained Civics go well over 200,000 miles; my own ‘85 went to 170,000 with two owners, and an unknown amount with the third.

The presence of aftermarket parts might mean that the previous owner took care of it- or that he or she drove it like a race car. Have an independant mecahnic check it out before you buy it. It might cost you $50, but it could save you thousands.

Q: Tax, Tag, and Title in Fl?
I’m getting a 1997 Honda Civic for $2450. Sales tax in Fl is 7% so I know the tax would be $171.5. How much would the tag and title cost? This will be my first car so I would need a brand new tag not just a transfer.

A: title is 29.95, tag is from 20 up, depends on weight of car and what tag you choose – we have lots of vanity plates available in florida! (no more impact fee)

Q: Should I buy this used car?
My mechanic, whom I’ve known and trusted for years, has a car for sale. It’s a 1997 Honda Civic. I’ve test driven it and it runs great. it has about 116,000 miles on it. I’ve done a Carfax history report on it and nothing showed up. I know that it’s had some work done on the rear because of a past fender-bender. He’s selling it for $4,200 but he went down from $5,200. Is there anything else that I can do to see if this car is legit?
EX:
Besides taking it to another mechanic for a private-inspection.

A: If you trust your mechanic and did your background checks and homework, there shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure he includes at least a 6 month bumper-to-bumper warranty on it. As you’ll probably be going to him for repairs and maintenance, the car should be OK. Check auto websites to make sure the price is about the same for a car like that too. I get a bit nervous buying cars with over 100k miles on them. Things happen you know. Good luck.

Q: DMV asking too much for salex tax on my registration transfer?
I bought a 4-door 1997 Honda Civic LX with almost 209,000 miles for $1500 from a non-dealer here in Massachusetts. Today at the DMV I was shocked when the rep told me the total for registration transfer is $221.25.

I asked her why so high, she told me that the book value of the car is $3125, so $156.25 for the sales tax. That value must be wrong, this car has over 200,000 miles!

If she’s wrong, what can I do to have the total price for the registration transfer lowered?

A: Most states will go by either what you paid for the vehicle, or the book that gives market value, whichever is higher. You don’t have much choice if you want to get it registered. Remember to take if off next years taxes.

Actually I have it at $3,425 with that mileage, so you didn’t do badly.

Q: What is the name of this auto body part?
The car in question is a honda civic 1997 ex coupe, the part in question is the part behind the door, almost like a rear fender, its between the hood and the door on both sides. It hangs over the wheels. I thought it was a rear fender, but i can’t find the part online. I need to replace mine as it had incurred damage.

also if anyone had one for sale. heh. heh.

also. i thhink it reachse around above the window too and it meets the door.

http://www.virginiausedcardealers.com/presidential/00924A.jpg

that is the car, the whole piece on the far left. that whole thing. what the fructose is it.

A: I think you talking about a quarter panel.

Low Miles but a 12 year old car?!
the dealer said he’d include sales tax, registration, license, etc all in the total price. He also told me I can test drive for a few hours and take it to a mechanic. How do I get the dealer to lower the price on the car? It’s OLD I want to pay $4800 for it. I’ve been car searching for SO long and I want a Toyota or Honda Civic.

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Q: If I get a good deal on a 1997 Honda Civic, are parts hard to find?
I’m looking at a 1997 honda DX hatchback with 100K miles on it for for three grand – pictures look real clean inside, outside, under the hood…..I’m going to look at it tomorrow….but I was wondering, with a car that old, is it hard to get parts? are they expensive?

A: There’s so many late 90s Civics out there that spare parts are commonplace.

Q: Will 99-00 honda civic parts fit a 1997 honda civic EX?
Im looking for the OEM front bumper, grill, front lip, rear lip, maybe headlights and tailights

A: Yea they all fit. the 99-00 tail lights look much better.

Q: What company is good for Honda civic performance parts?
BTW for a 1997 Honda Civic Ex.

A: Well I don’t know what the other two answers are about? For the record you have an EK! And the EX is the best model to work with other then the SI. If you look at EG’s (92-95 Civic Hatch, EJ1 92-95 Civic Coupe) they are the same motor and tranny from the SI Hatch and the EX Coupe, so go figure! As for companys that make performance parts for your car it’s outrageously crazy how many make parts for your car.

Lets start out with the most known. Spoon, Skunk2, Tein for suspension work, Hondata for your ECU or cars computer, AEM, BLOX, Megan, HFP (Honda Factory Performance), And MOST importantly this is the biggest in my opinion, MUGEN.

I guess what it comes down to is what parts you need and who offers the best product for that part at a good price. Lets face it, not everything needs to be name brand for it to due the same thing at the same quality like say, strut bars. They will all due the same function unless they’re really that crappy.

But hopefully this helps and don’t worry about haters! Your car is the best model besides the SI of course. It is wired for Vtec and has all the same amenities of an SI just not the motor an power, but that is easily taken care of! Good luck with your car though!

Q: What is a reasonable cost for parts and labor to replace a CV axle on a 1997 Honda Civic?
Just want to make sure my mechanic is not trying to rob me.

A: $200 in Redneck Tennessee. $100 parts,$100 labor.

Q: Will 2005 honda civic ex brakes fit on a 1997 honda civic ex?
I have a totaled 2005 honda civic ex with new brakes and was wondering if they would fit on my 1997 honda civic ex. Also what other parts are interchangable between these two cars.
Well to tell you the truth they do fit except they are different. same, drill patterns,

A: NO

Brake Rotor, Front

the 2005 front rotors:
1.7L (SOHC, disc)
1.3L (Hybrid, disc)
2.0L (DOHC, disc)

the 1997:
Brake Rotor, Front

LX, w/o ABS
EX
CX, DX, & HX
LX, w/ABS

nothing is interchangeable between the two cars.

Q: What all would it take to get acura rsx body parts on my honda civic?
i want to put rsx fenders, headlights, bumper, and hood on my 1997 honda civic ex. they make conversion kits, but i don’t know if there’ are special brackets or cuts that have to be made or w/e. if you know anything about car conversions especially about civic to rsx conversions, please post! all help will be welcomed.
honda owns acura and the rsx is acuras version of the civic…does anyone know if the dimensions are the same?

A: It’s been done before, but you’re better off selling your civic and buying an RSX. The good conversion kits that don’t squeak and bang together when you hit a bump is going to run around $2,000 to $3,000. And then there’s labor. The demensions are fairly close, but not exact, so putting the brackets on are extremely difficult. Acura modeled the RSX after the 7th gen Toyota Celica, so the layout of the car is designed to be lightweight and handle well. The civic was designed as an economical commuter car. If you put a conversion kit on your civic, it will throw off the balance of the car and cost loads, so I’d recommend trading up to an RSX.
Then call me and I’ll show you how to drive it :)

Q: Will my honda civic fail inspection if i add some aftermarket parts?
by parts i mean if i take out the stock air intake system and put in an aftermarket cold air intake. also if i replace the stock exhaust with an exhaust system(catback). and would it matter if the car has a low body kit or not?(i cant see why a body kit would be a problem) its a 1997 honda civic DX coupe .

A: As far as intake and exhaust, they pretty much are all legal. Make sure whatever you get has a CA smog number. Even if you dont live in CA, if its CA compliant you won have any trouble passing smog because CA has the highest smog restrictions.

Q: Will an Exhaust from a 2000 Acura Integra GSR 3-Door fit a 1997 Honda Civic EX Sedan?
The civic has an aftermarket 2.5″ exhaust on it and it sounds like a pissed bee in a tin can. I want to put it back to stock and have searched for hours about the interchangeability of civic/integra parts. My car is a 4 door and I found an exhaust on CL from an 00 GSR he said make him an offer. So will it fit?

A: Idk how much of the exhaust youre getting from this guy… but the manifold wont work, the hangers will need to be removed and new ones welded on probably.

This is a pic of a gsr exhaust replacement…

http://www.corsportusa.com/store/catalog/images/94-99%20integra%20skunk2%20exhaust%20….jpg

and this is your civic…

https://www.upscaleautomotive.com/popup.aspx?src=images/product/large/22319_1_.jpg

I would say that of any Honda exhaust, these would be the most interchangeable however I’m sure one is longer than the other so you’re going to have it sit too far in or too far out.

You need one for your car, not a stock gsr… why do you need a gsr’s anyway? Find someone on a forum looking to get rid of their stock, plenty of ppl should have one laying around collecting dust. Or… your old one lol

Q: How much are door mouldings for a 1997 Honda Civic?
Somebody stole the door mouldings on my 97 Civic and my dad is beyond pissed. Generally, how much are these car parts?

A: look them up on ebay

Q: How much should I expect to pay for a transmission rebuild? – 1997 Honda Civic LX (manual transmission)?
I’m just curious. What is a reasonable price for parts and labor?
I forgot to mention that I am in NC.
… and yes, I have called a few places. I have never dealt with transmission problems before, so I’m doing my homework. :-)

A: You should search online for a reputable used/imported engine and transmission seller. Most will have at least a 3-6 month warranty.

Your Civic uses a very basic and common Honda transmission (dime a dozen). You could probably get a
quality used one shipped to you for $800ish or less. As for
install, are there any tuner shops that modify Honda/Acura’s in your area? I’m sure they would install and guarantee their work in writing for less than most auto shops. Another choice is a high school auto shop, they’ll install it for free or very little money. Mechanics are business people, just like car salesman, and they always try to extract as much money as possible from the unkowing consumer.

I don’t care what anyone says, a rebuilt transmission is never as good as a lower mileage used one. I know know 3 people who’ve had a Honda/Acura transmissions rebuilt at significant cost (as you’ve been quoted) and they never shifted as good as the original.

EDIT- Also, as your Civic is only worth about $4,000 +/-, it’s not really cost effective to dump $3,000+ into it.

EDIT #2- The guy below must not have read your description as a manual transmission doesn’t have a torque converter.

I took the liberty of getting a quote for you:

The price for this transmission is $595, with NO core deposit required.

It’s from:

Q: i can’t find Honda civic Si for cheap so should i just buy 2000 civic ex with D16y8 but can i make hp w D16y8?
if i can please tell me how, what parts to use and other bolt on parts. now i have 1997 honda civic ex. i just installed an exhaust system i took the cat out and installed a straight pipe. But it still have no power. im selling it. and ialso lower it about 2inches. i looks nice but i really wanted get s 2000 model civic.

A: Turbocharge it, you’ll easily make more power than a B16A swap, even with the stock engine (assuming it’s healthy). You could build your own kit for around $1,500, or buy a pre-assembled kit for $2,500-3,000. On top of the kit, you’ll need an engine management system, to pay a professional to tune it (for the most power and for reliability), and possibly injectors (if the kit doesn’t come with them).

Q: what do i need to convert my 1997 civic ex from auto to manual?
i want to convert my 1997 honda civic ex from an automatic to a manual transmission. i wanted to know a basic list of parts id need, and if the car comes with and automatic or an automanual transmission stock. i also wanted to the average prices of parts, and would i have to change the 1.6L vtec sohc engine or computer.

A: Changing auto to manual is not as bad as one might think. The things I’m going to list is not complete and I’m just typing the things that I can remember. also can’t remember price for parts as finding the parts will not be easy. In the end, it might be cheaper just to look for an a civic with a manual transmission.

Parts
1. Manual transmission – dunno how much, you’re going to have to shop around via junk yards.
2. Foot Pedals – dunno how much
3. Clutch cable
4. maybe new axles
5. ecu for a 97 honda civic ex manual. If your car doesn’t come in manual then this whole conversion is impossible.
6. Tool rental – engine hoist. You’re not going to use your bare hands to lift up the manual tranny and lock it in unless you’re super man.

You’re going to have to get some help with this. If done right it can take only 1 day to finish.

Honestly its easier just to get another civic thats manual. I looked up a 97 civic ex manual transmission with 200k miles in good condition on Kelly Blue Book and the price came out to $2,650. You’re probably looking at a third of that price to do the conversion but finding the parts needed isn’t going to be easy. Especially for a car that is over 10 years old.

Q: Ok, can’t fix our Buick. So, have to fix my Honda Civic Ex. 1997. Cost to fix radiator? Parts and labor.?

A: Radiators will vary in price from store to store, so call and compare prices. Last one I installed ran about $135.00 and it took just over an hour to replace. If your having it done, expect to pay about $250 for this repair. This includes coolant, radiator and labour. Some shops charge more so this could be higher. Good Luck

Q: You know where can i get the honda civic 1997 Automatic transmisson Ued Or repair My One for Cheap?

A: that trans in no longer made so you wont find in new. try looking it up online or at a junk/salvage yard. it would be your best bet.

Q: Can I buy a cheap roof rack for my 1997 2 door Honda Civic HX?
Thule recommends a 400xt Aero Foot, LB 50 load bars, 259 fit kit and a short roof adapter but I only want a basic crossbar rack that will hold my surfboard securely at high speeds. Do I really need the adapter if I’m not carryign a lot of weight? Will any of the cheap racks (around $50) work on a 2 door car?

A: Come on. Honda’s have such thin metal on the roof It will cave in the minute you put something on it,

Q: i can’t find Honda civic Si for cheap so should i just buy 2000 civic ex with D16y8 but can i make hp w D16y8?

Q: What is the easiest and cheapest way to make a 1997 honda civic faster?

A: It depends on just how much faster you want. If you want another 10 hp, maybe a little more, go with the basic “breathing mods” – cold air intake, performance header, and a cat-back exhaust.

Want a bigger kick? Nitrous can give you 50 more hp, but once the bottle’s empty the fun is over.

Is that a Civic DX, CX, or LX? If so, installing the intake manifold from a Civic EX will give you a little bit more power.

If you want big power gains – 50+ hp – and you want that power to be there any time you need it, don’t do the mods I have listed above. Instead, save your money and go straight for an engine swap or a turbo kit, because you won’t get that power with easy, minor bolt ons. You may be able to re-use a few of the mods – the manifold swap trick will work for a turbo kit, and you can probably keep the exhaust – but it’s often best to start with the big mod and then buy the rest of the parts to match it.

Q: What is the best motor to put in a 1997 Honda Civic hatch?
I was wondering what motor would be best for a 97 civic hatch?
also cheap, easy and the most horse power.
What is the best engine to put in a 1997 Honda Civic Hatch???
cheap,
easy,
and fast.

A: Horsepower is a made up number, so there’s no reason you need it.

Seriously.

It’s just torque, multiplied by one number, then divided by another.

I could substitute any numbers I wanted in there, call it Monkey Power, and it’d be just as useful to mention. My car, for example, has 1700~ monkey power.

Who cares? It doesn’t indicate how fast my car is, how well I drive, or anything else.

Torque however, is what moves your car down the road. So, that’s important. The previous poster listed a great site for a motor to put in your car.

(cars have engines, by the way….not motors….but since you asked for a motor…that’s what he gave you)

Q: Where can I find Wheels/Tires for a 1997 Honda civic EX?
I really really have to find 4 tires for my Dad’s Honda civic EX, 1997.

If I find these tires for fairly cheap he will buy me a cell phone :O!
Searched craigslist and got nothing, google doesn’t help much either…
P185/65R14

A: Sam’s Club…if you don’t have a membership it’d be worth it to purchase one. I would recommend going with BF Goodrich, I have them on my civic and they are excellent. They also come with a 70,000 mile warranty (unless you live in NY) Sam’s Club will honor EVERYTHING, if anything goes wrong with the tires from your basic driving they will cover you

Q: I was wondering im thinking about getting a honda civic 1997 what would be the best engine to put to go fast?
to go fast and be pretty cheap wat are my options and could i put a supra twin turbo in it?

A: Diesel Turbine from an M-1 Abrams Assault tank will really pep that puppy up.

The cheapest go fast goodie is NOS (Nitrus Oxide) but it is dangerous when used by the in experienced. A turbo is probably what you want. How fast you want to go is directly proportional to how thick your wallet is.

Q: Whats the difference between 1997-2000 honda civic ex coupe? ?
i want to know why the 2000 is better than a 1997-1999. is it cuter?
I really want an Si but i dont know anything about cars. i just want a cheap cute one =)

A: ok for the 1996-1998 civic’s ex vs comparing a 1999-2000 civic ex.
first off the front end, headlights bumper changed.
1998:

1999-2000:

notice how the grill on the bottom is smaller and has two optional cutouts for fog lights.
look again:

99-00 with fogs:

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1496/redcivicgl4.jpg

ok for the back, 96-98 had amber turn signals, 99-00 coupes had clear.

basically i think thats it for the 1996-1998 civic ex, compared to the 1999-2000 ex

now for comparing the 1999-2000 civic ex vs si.

the si is a upgraded ex, upgraded from the 1.6 SOHC D-series motor to the 1.6 DOHC VTEC B16A2, so newer engine trans computer axels.

also since it has a bigger more powerful motor it had a newer designed cluster.

si for that year also added rear disc brakes which the ex didn’t have.

si also had orange interior lights to backlight the gauges hvac panel as shown:

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/sk8shorty017/shot5.jpg

where as the civic ex was more whiteish.

si also came with alloy wheels
http://carsmedia.ign.com/cars/image/article/688/688078/history-of-the-civic-si-20060210061726674.jpg
where as the ex was steel rims with hubcaps:

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/8386/img0822vu4.jpg

if you want a cheap cute one, you can do what i did, get a 99 civic dx and make it look jdm like this.

BEFORE:
start with a car like this:[99-00 civic dx coupe or hatch what ever you like]
http://americardealer.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/images/DSCF0449.274141245_std.jpg

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/autoreview/400×266/2000-Honda-Civic-00802031990002.jpg

and make it look JDM like the japanese have stock in japan.

add like fog lights, sidemarker lights si cluster decals emblems it will make a nice car which i think you would like.

AFTER:
do like this guy did similarly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aTqyum3iNo
look at the 0:23 sec mark for before
and the 1:11 mark for after you should do like that.

Q: my 1997 honda civic ex stereo deck was stolen from my car. I want to replace it and install it myself.?
My questions are:
Do i need to buy a specific size of a car deck? or any will do

The wires in the back were cut, so I need a wiring harness correct?

Where is the cheapest place to buy/get a deck?

Lastly, do I need to get those installation kits before I get the deck itself?

Thanks!

A: yes, you will need a harness to repair the damage.
a kit usually includes the frame template, etc so the carriage fits proerl. it’s not hard to do, but plan on enough time to accomplish your task.

Q: 1997 honda civic engine quote please help! I need to know if this price is fair.?
Its being paid for by walmart’s insurance company since they messed up my car after an oil change. But they were quoted 2867.00 to replace the engine, timing belt and water pump. Is this price fair or right? I need to know becasue if its too high I can take th car somewhere else cheaper
Or I can just use the check to buy another car. Is this worth it to fix for that much or can i get it done cheaper somewehre else?

A: Take the check that Walmart is giving you and tell them to screw off. It doesn’t cost $2867 to drop a engine in a 1997 Honda Civic. If your Civic was a DX or LX then it had the D16Y7 engine, and if it was a EX it has a D16Y8 engine. Those engines are dirt cheap and you can buy them used at the junkyard or even a low mileage JDM engine for $300-$500. To have a reputable mechanic that knows about Honda to swap it in should only charge about $200-$300 bringing for total cost for parts and labor well under $1000.

Q: 1997 honda, thrown rod, how much if i sold as is…?
I have a 1997 Honda civic Ex. It started to make a rattle noise in the engine, after trying to eliminate the cheaper possibilities we took it to the auto shop and found out that it thew a rod and we need to get a new engine; however, I’m a bit skeptical to just replace the engine, cause that would cost us anywhere from 2-3 grand, and I am afraid its just not worth putting that much into it. I just dont want to put that much into it and turn around and need to replace other things on it, and it become a money pit. I am looking for advice on what I may be able to sell it as is. The condition of the car is wonderful, no major body or interior damage, the car has been modified (was when i bought it). Here is a picture of my honda, with it having a thrown rod what would be a resonable price to ask for it.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q312/Madisonandkylee/civic2.jpg?t=1187901293

thanks in advance
let me just say, that that price i listed wasnt just for the engine nor a actual amount just from what other people have told me they have paid, but for the work, its going to be around 800 for the work, and they said they can get a crate engine over seas for 800.. so probably around 1800 at the least to get the engine and get it put in. I really dont have an option to shop around, i live in a small town far from most places and we dont have to many choices.. so i guess that that gets me a little screwed in prices probably.. Thanks for the input, we think we have a few ideas of how to handle our situtation

A: AS-IS I would say 2,000 would be a fair price. I buy and sell cars daily, and 2K would be what I would ask and not take ANYTHING less than $1,800, But first of all I would undertake the repair myself (or do it in my shop, keeping my mechanics busy during slow / spare time). Hondas sell FAST and for full book OR BETTER. I try not to pass up on Honda’s and Toyotas. Hell I see Cavaliers that need engines for a grand, and repaired they are only worth 3K tops.

Well considering that your mechanic can get an engine for $800 and and additional $800 for install it is not that far out of line. The fact that you live in a small town would definately hurt you to sell as-is as your market is small not many fix and flip people. With $1,600 invested you have a car that you could sell nationally on autotrader or ebay motors. I did a search (Nationally- aka any distance) on autotrader . com for only 97 civic’s the average price was $5,135, the average for a 97 EX Coupe is $5,393, and clean cars are $6,500 – 7K meaning that you are giving away $5,400 based on a sale at 7K minus repairs at $1,600.

Don’t listen to the pundits here, do your research, I’ve bought and sold hundreds of cars over the years. I started out buying deals just like yours, cars that had serious mechanical problems that the owners wanted OUT of but were in otherwise good condition, I would make the necessary repairs, put the car in top notch condition and get top dollar, Honda is an IN DEMAND car in my market.

Actually it is pretty nice from a cosmetic standpoint, first thing I would do is change the bottom end bearings and have the crank machined if necessary, the cost of re doing the bottom end is around $100 for main and rod bearings, plus labor (not a problem for me ;) ) All that is entailed is dropping the pan and pulling the rod caps, examining the Journals , if they are okay replace with new bearings and rock on, if all the bearings show significant wear check the mains and rplace them as well. Never re-install a used bearing! Also make sure caps are replaced in the order and orentation that they were removed. Whole process takes an hour and a half max!

Q: Will a Honda 97 Civic LX head fit on a 97 Civic DX Motor?
I have a 1997 Honda Civic DX. It has had overheating problems. I have replaced the thermostat, water pump, plugs, wires, distributor and such. Radiator seems to be fine so I am not replacing that. I cant tell if the head gasket is blown. The car itself runs fine, poor starting aside(water is getting into the cylinders) Or if the head itself is cracked/warped or something. I can get a LX head for cheap so I figured id ask if it would fit & see if anyone has any suggestions of stuff that may fix it. (Overheating, bad starting but that’s from water getting in the cylinders which id imagine is from the head and/or valves)

A: You most likely are dealing with a head gasket issue–save the money on a diff head and pull the one off your car and spend $40.00 and send it to a machine shop and have it milled and pressure checked. These heads dont just crack unless there is a time you have not mentioned that this motor has been overheated. If you get it pressure checked they can tell you if it is cracked. Get with a local garage and they can direct you to a machine shop that will check these issues. So send your head out and buy an upper end gasket kit(advise to buy at least an OEM headgasket if you choose to go aftermarket on the others)!!!!

Q: Honda Civic LX 1997 for1500?! Good deal huh?
This is a good? It only has 82k miles on it. The compressor is not there for the a/c , just the fan. Everything else works great. ITs probally from a rich guy since its a in rich place… Wondering why its cheap I asked cause hes just want to get rid of it. No lower then 1500 tho he said. Whats your opinion?
Its a 4 door

A: Good deal.

KBB.com says it is worth $3000-$5000

Q: From which webside i can find cheap parts of the cars?
i want pimp my ride so, i’m thinking to buy cheap turbo charges, supercharges, turbo headers and exhaust system to for Impala ss 1996 to win race of some who having Honda Civic 1997 with h-22 engine of Honda Accord.

A: You will get what you pay for, CHEAP PARTS usually don’t fit right, have a high failure rating, and just are not worth the time and money to try to modify and replace, but it’s your money

Q: which car to get? USED toyota tercel, corolla, camry, honda civic or nissan sentra?
Hi all, i’m a poor college student and i need to find a RELIABLE car for as cheap as possible. will probably be getting a used car from a private party on craigslist or something. probably a 1994-1997 toyota tercel, corolla, camry, honda civic or nissan sentra. i will be getting a clear titled car

factors to consider:
cost of car
cost of parts
cost of maintenance
mpg (though they’re all pretty similar)
i need an automatic

right now the costs of the cars are in this order: lowest to highest
tercel
sentra
corolla
civic
camry

i plan to drive this car around 4-5 years, and i want to not have to bother with maintenance so much and if i do, which car has the cheapest? i heard civics have the cheapest parts, but a civic is about $1000 more than a tercel.
but i don’t know how much maintenance i’ll have to put into the tercel and if i do, would the prices add up??

thanks for your expertise. share any stories/experiences about the mentioned cars or any warnings.
ALSO

i plan on getting a car with around 100-150k mileage
so i need one that will last me 4 years, i don’t really plan to resell it, but it’s a possibility. even if just for a couple hundreds…
i won’t use more than 10k miles a year and they’re mostly going to be freeway miles
ALSO apart from craigslist, ebay and yahoo auto

where can i get used cars for LA area ? cheap and reliable?
thanks
preferably private parties. sites
does anyone know how much it’d cost to fix the AC and horn for a civic?
thanks

A: I’ve owned a 92 Civic, 3 Corollas (89, 92, 95), and 90 Tercel, but not Sentra or Camry. And I am a college student, AND I bought all of these cars for $1000 or under. I also bought all of them with my own hard earned money, so I know the value of a reliable and easy to maintain car. I am also training to be a mechanic so I know which is easier to get parts for, etc…

The most enjoyable, reliable, and best overall car would be the Corolla. I had a 95 Corolla and currently drive a 92 Civic. They both are cars that can run up to 200k miles and can still be good. The Corolla has a little more room and a little more power. The Civic does cost much, much less for parts. Though overall the Corolla faired me the best, and was the most reliable. It also sold for the most. It is the easiest car I have ever worked on, and thats between hundreds.

I think you should focus on these two cars, the Civic and Corolla. They are equal all around, its just availability. Matter of fact I am selling my 93 Honda Civic and getting a newer 2000 Civic to finish out this last year of College to get my bachelors degree. They are really good cars.

BTW, Tercels are okay, just I find the engines weak, and sometimes they cost within 2 or 3 hundred of the Corolla which is way better. But if you get the Tercel its okay too.

Q: Which tires should I put on my car?
My 1997 Civic DX needs two new front tires and I don’t know which ones to put on (didn’t put the first ones on, only driven this thing 20,000 miles). I live in salt lake city so I drive in slush/snow often. I’ve used discount tire in the past to install them, and they are recommending the Goodyear integrity tire. I looked up reviews of the tire online and I’m hearing it’s not that great. I would rather wait a week and order a good tire that works well with my car than get crappy tires now. Or am I being paranoid about that tire and the idiots who say it slips all the time in the rain?

Anyone know a decent tire that is hopefully $60 or less a piece that works well with a ‘97 Honda Civic DX?
My tire size is 185/65 – 14

A: The Goodyear Integrity sucks, especially in slush, snow or ice. Avoid any tire place that actually recommends these turkey’s.

P185/65R14 85S is one of the most popular tire sizes on the planet. Your choices are limited to just a few hundred different models but your budget narrows that more than just a bit. The General Altimax RT or Kuhmo Solus KR21 would certainly be much better than the Goodyears. Those are perfectly decent tires for the price. My favorite is the highly reviewed Pirelli P4 Four Season which might be a couple of bucks over your planned budget but is worth every penny.

Q: Is $11,700 a good deal for a 2010 Corolla S?
17,700
-1000 discount
-1000 student discount
-4000 trade in(no questions asked)
—————–
Total $11,700

The trade in is a 1997 saab that barely runs. Carmax offered me $1200 for it.

Was this a good deal? I left cause I felt pressured and I want to look at a Honda Civic before deciding. What do you all say?

A: If you can fit comfortably in it and like it buy it.

Q: i want a 500hp 1997 honda civic what should i change or buy?
i have a 97 honda civic with a b20z2 engine and its 2.0L so its pushing around 200hp. i want to know for which other engine i should change it for and if i should a buy a turbo. i was thinkin about changing it for a k20 engine and buying a turbo but that only give me about 300hp. what should i do to get 500hp?

A: Engine+turbo does not = 500hp
you will need internal motor work
1. build your block
2. port and polish head, a good head job is key to reaching 500hp
3. BIG turbo, you need a big turbo, like a Garrett GT4202R. you’ll need to run between 25 to 30 psi, but make sure you take the proper step to ensure your motor can handle it
4. know how to tune your car
5. never buy cheap stuff

There’s plenty of b20/vtec turbo over 500hp
People who tells you honda can’t reach 500hp probably knows nothing about cars in general
there’s 500 +hp hondas everywhere, and can be reached easily if you know what you’re doing

Q: Where to buy rims for a 1997 Honda civic?
anyone know a good placed for a rim and tire package deal?

A: discounttiredirect.com, will mount and balance the tires before sending to you, free shipping as well.

Q: where can i buy hid lights for a 1997 honda civic?
i have upgraded lights w/conversion kit already. i am looking for a place to buy just the bulbs to put in

A: ebay it.

Q: How much would it cost to buy and have somebody install an AC on a 1997 Honda Civic HX with CVT?
This has never had an AC installed. In it only blower system system for out side air and heat.

A: $1,500 is the going price.

Q: 1997 Honda Civic EX CD player issues?
Today I bought a 1997 Honda Civic EX. There is a stock CD player in this car, but when I put a CD in it it won’t play. It knows there is a CD in the player, because it will go through the different tracks like it’s going to play but after a few seconds it spits the CD back out. What could be wrong with it?

A: If you insert a profesionally recorded CD and it does work, then it is better to replace the unit rather than get it fixed.

Hope this helps.

Q: im looking to buy a hatchbk honda civic 1997-1999. All electrics in gd condition im in london.?

A: Errrrm that is nice…. so was that a question :S ???

Q: 1997 HONDA CIVIC DX COUPE?
ok i just buy a 1997 HONDA CIVIC DX COUPE 5 Spd im new to honda im more into nissan but it was a good buy .im looking for good turbo to put into it i want the good staf not that shit they sell in ebay
give me names and prices thank you

A: Do you know how much power you want out of it? I recommend you piece it out, I would go with either Garret or Borg Warner turbo t3/t4. You would also have to upgrade injectors Rc’s are pretty good and i would do a walbro fuel pump.Inter cooler doesn’t really matter you can even go with a ebay one. I personally like ram horn exhaust manifold. maybe a tial waste gate and BOV, even tho the BOV doesn’t really matter either. You should go with Hondata s300 works great for data log. Piping, clamps and fittings don’t really matter just make sure they fit. If you want to boost over 10 pounds i would also get a 3 bar map sensor and head studs. And don’t forget the Boost controller! I don’t suggest you do it on your D series (if that’s what you have) you should get a B20 which run pretty cheap these days but you can still work on a single cam, would be interesting to see a single cam hauling ass. If you don’t want to spend so much money piecing out this would be a good kit to keep in mind a synapse turbo kit the rest you can ebay. Good luck!

Q: whats wrong with my 1997 honda civic? can you tell me what this means?
ok so i bought this 1997 honda civic non vtech and drove it down the street and i all of a sudden died. the battery is new. it had gas. so i figured it was the alternater so i took it in to autozone and replaced it. now i can drive the car for about 10 more minutes and then it dies again.the battery goes from 100% to 0 now! the scanner is reading codes p1298 which means “electrical load detector circuit high input” the next code is p0135 which means “02 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank1, sensor 1. and the other code is p0141 which means “02 sensor heater circuit malfunction bank 1,sensor 2″….. does anyone know what the heck this mean? like how do i fix this what do i need to buy…?

A: First of all, power wash your engine bay. You may have dirty battery terminals. Remove them and clean BOTH ends. This will insure good contacts and maintain electrical equilibrium. The codes you are citing indicate that your o2 sensors (which are VERY expensive) are worn out and need replacing. Is your engine a 4 cylinder or v-6??? You should try this first: Buy a can of spray Gum-out, and use it to clean the PCV valve, throttle body, and air control valve out to showroom condition. This will improve the engines ability to breathe and make sure the fuel/air ratio isn’t causing damage to the sensors. You can spray the Gum-out through the intake manifold with the engine running at normal operating temperatures, and eventually it will clean the O2 sensors for you, if they are still serviceable. Keep your engine CLEAN!!! Good Luck!!!

Q: Is a 1997 honda civic coupe with 175k miles a good buy for $2500?
Alignment and balancing of tires was done and it has new front brake pads and rotors and new right axle, muffler, rack and pinion
I think so too, I’m friends with the guy selling it. So is it a good buy?
Its the EX by the way

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: What are the wheel bolt patterns, back spacing, offset, is on a 1997 honda civic ex.?
Well what do i need to know to buy a new set of non stock wheels for a 1997 Honda civic ex coupe. I plan on buying someone a set for christmas.

A: Bolt Pattern: 4×100mm
Backspacing: 5.43″
Offset: 38mm

Q: I am thinking of buying a 1997 Honda Civic LX with over 200k miles? Bad idea?
http://toledo.craigslist.org/cto/832057155.html

I have talked to the owner and he said that they have been the only owners, he changed the oil every 3 to 4 thousand miles, and it has given him no problems. He said the lowest he could sell it to me is 2,900. Is this too much, and or are the miles too high?

Thanks!

A: you’ll only get another 50k or so from that car… the department of transportation figures that a honda is good for about 30k more than a chevrolet… so, that would be like buying a cavalier with 170k on it. would you do that?
no, me either.

Q: How do I change the rear motor mount in a 1997 Honda Civic… Is there any diagrams or anything online?

A: Probably if you look. Common sense tells ya to put a jack up to the bottom of the motor first…………………..

Q: I want to buy a used car. Which one is the best Hyundai(accent), Toyota(corolla), or Honda(civic) and why?
Hyundai accent vs (Honda civic vs Toyota corolla)?

It looks like 2002 model of Hyundai accent is of the same price as 1997 model of Honda civic.
Does this mean Hyundai accent is not a good car?
When I checked the miles per gallon(mpg) online, all these
three gives from 25mpg to 37mpg.
What are the other factors affecting the price?
and I also would like to know about the maintenance cost(spare parts) for Hyundai vs other two cars.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

A: Hyundai builds crap. Steer clear. Depreciation is ver steep. DO yourself a huge favor and go for the Corolla or Civic. They are both excellent cars that will last long after the Hyundai is dead and buried.

Q: Question on repairing axles on a 97′ Civic Ex coupe?
So I have a 1997 Honda Civic Ex coupe. First of all, does this car have abs? I read on from other answers that to look for an abs light on the panel, I do not see one. So I am guessing it does not have abs brakes??? Anyway, My next question is, I was wondering what is the cheapest way to repair axles….

should i take it to a mechanic? or should i buy the axles online, then take it to a mechanic??

A: I just did the axle repair on my 96 Odyssey. It’s a sensitive repair since you are dealing with bearings at the transmission. Experience is a must, seriously consider doing it at your dealership. In the end, having to take it in only once and getting it right the first time might be worth it. You will also get new CV joints in the process…figure about $1200.00.

I am no fan of the dealers, but sometimes it’s not worth it to go elsewhere.

Q: Buying my first car…. Honda Help!?
I’m going to try to make a long story short…

I was looking for a car and I found basically my dream (USED)car. It’s a 1997 Honda civic EX 2 door coupe. It’s ticketed at 5995.00 but he’s selling it to me for $4,000. It has 79,304 miles, but looks great!
Here’s the problem…
I asked him for a carfax vehicle history report and he “told” me it was clean. When I check online for the free report it said it had 21 records. I would have to pay $25 to see what they actually are. Today I’m going to push for the report and take it to a machanic before I purchase it.
BUT…
Is there anything I should look for right off the bat as trouble?

Here’s the link to the car.

A: Pay the $25 bucks….it could save you thousands later. Definitely get it checked out before you buy it.

Q: how do i take my headlights off?
i have a 1997 honda civic and im trying to take the headlights off but cant figure out out, can someone help me out please!! i cant even find it online!!
i dont want to replace the bulb. i want to take the light off sooo i cant clean inside it

A: I don’t think you can clean the inside of the headlight lenses.

Q: “Honda” turbo charger into a Saturn?????? CAN I DO IT?
I want to buy a turbo charger online, the one offered is a used “
turbo kit h22 civic integra honda turbo parts”
it comes with These specs:
greddy bov 100
38mm turbonetics delegate external wastegate 100
intercooler 200 (dont know dimensions biggest intercooler that could fit on integra)
h22 manifold 250
greddy emanage piggy back 180
2x autometer gauges air fuel & boost 50 each
t3 t4 turbo .70 400

And i have a 1997 Saturn SC2, so my question is arnt all turbo chargers universal?? would this work in my saturn?? thanks

A: The turbo charger might be universal, but the piping, the exhaust manifold, the computer (piggyback) and the intercooler are not. You would be buying a kit and only using a portion of the parts. You need a kit for your car. The hardest part is getting the exhaust headers for a turbo. And then getting all the piping you will need to get that pressurized air into your intake. By the way, turbo chargers use oil to lubricate and cool themselves down. this means you will need to tap your oil pan and run new lines to get oil to the turbo. Turbo’s need special oil which almost no one ever uses. Turbo’s spin at incredible RPMs and therefore you need the best oil you can run, and you need to change it much more frequently than you would without the turbo. Turbo’s are incredibly hard on oil. They are also hard on your engine parts, you should get a rebuilt engine that can take the boost. You will also need a new fuel managment system to get more gas into your engine, otherwise your only increasing half the equation. Power = Gas + air. All your doing is air, in order for a turbo to really work, you need the gas, which is where the piggyback comes in, it reprograms your computer to use more fuel than it would normally. You will also need to run hi test fuel. You will need to let your car idol before you shut it off because the turbo needs time to cool down after being used. The oil needs to be pumped into the turbo for a little bit (like a minute or 2) to let the turbo cool itself before you shut it off. If you just turn your car off after using it, you could burn up the bearings in the turbo. You will also loose longevity in your engine. Turbo’s are not a “buy it on ebay and slap it on” type of modification, it costs ALOT of money to make a turbo work the way it’s suppose to. And if your not going to do it right, it’s really not worth doing. Save your money, get a car with a factory turbo, it’s a way better bet. Or better still, by a car that’s fast without a turbo. A turbo is just one more thing to break down, and one more thing to add stress to an engine.

Q: Car Insurance Question!?
I currently am paying 231.10 dollars for car insurance. This policy has only one vehicle, which is a 1997 Dodge Caravan. I am planning to add another vehicle to the policy which is a 2003 Honda Civic Sedan. I am wondering how much more I would have to pay if I were to add on this vehicle. Can someone give me an estimated amount?? ( Using GEICO as my Auto Insurance )

And also, I went on the Geico site and I saw that you can add a vehicle to your policy just online. After I’m done with all the registration, will they just send the insurance card straight to my home with just a simple online registration??

A: If you were on the Geico website then you also know you can find the answer to your question right there ON THEIR WEBSITE!!!!!
