Q: What color does the maintenance light of a 1998 Honda Civic turns when it needs maintenance?
I have a 1998 Honda Civic LX and i have this little square on the cluster and its the stock cluster and underneath it is says “maintenance required” and it used to be black in color, but now its kind of red. I am just wondering if anyone would know if thats the maintenance required light in a 98 Honda Civic LX?

A: You are correct – when it’s red, the light is “on” meaning that the OBD code reader needs to be hooked up (done for free at some auto parts stores) and the codes viewed to indicate the repairs needed

Q: best ways to tune a 1998 honda civic ex?
I have a 1998 honda civic ex, and i was woundering what are some tips to help quicken it up, i already have a cold air intake on it but am not sure what else to do to it.

A: First step is to finish up the breathing… header, cat and exhaust. If you don’t mind a little white knuckle turning in parking lots then bypass the power steering and in the cold season bypass the a/c. If it is an auto then swap out the transmission for manual and when you do that put on a lightweight flywheel and/or clutch. Definitely try to get rid of some weight, it can be free and will improve every aspect of your vehicles performance, and make sure to stay away from large rims because they are heavier unless you spend a lot of money on lightweight ones. You could also do carbon fiber parts, lightweight windows, under drive pulleys, camshaft, im, im gasket, wrap the header, tb, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, engine swap, built head, nos and so on.

Nos is a nice option for extra power at the push of a button, some will tell you it will burn up your engine but guess what… so will your right foot. If you are responsible with nos it can be fine, you could probably get away with a 35 shot safely on stock internals.

Chipping it would be an improvement but you want to do that after you are content with the rest of your mods so that the chip is tuned properly… DON’T BUY OFF EBAY FOR CHIPS, have a reputable shop do it, best option would be to have a knowledgable shop put it on a dyno and tune it right, that will probably earn you about 7 whp. ebay chip = 0-5 whp or maybe even worse than stock if your unlucky.

It all depends on your budget and how fast you wanna go.

Q: Where can i find a good body kit for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?
I just bought a Black 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX and wanted to know here i could purchase a good body kit for it?

A: Justin, whats your budget? Reason why I ask is because you do not have to spend thousands of dollars on a body kit from Japan for your 96-98 Civic (EK) Hatch such as Air Walker, Back Yard Special, C-Westin, J’s Racing, ETC., you can pay a fraction of that by buying a replica body kit manufactured by VIS Racing, Duraflex, companies like this already have (Cwestin, Buddy Club, Air Walker) style made for your vehicle. I personally have a VIS kit on my Nissan and am very happy w/ it, I made my purchase through http://www.iatuner.com/ and they gave me my VIS Vertex style kit for an awesome price. Hope this information helps.

Q: Is it possible to swap a automatic trans for a manual trans on a 1998 Honda civic ex?
I have a 1998 Honda civic with 80,000+ miles on it and it has an automatic trans
I would like to do stuff to it and a manual trans is need. Is it possible to swap them?
Thanks for the answers

A: Yea buddy, it’s easily possible. You will need a new transmission, new foot pedals, a new shifter and a mechanic with a lot of patience! It’s time consuming, but it can be done!

Q: 1998 Honda Civic EX Oil Change Intervals?
I bought my 1998 Honda Civic with about 98k miles, and it didn’t come with any owner’s manual. So I am not sure what is the recommended mileage for changing the oil? I know I use 5W-30 oil, cause that what it says on the oil cap. And if anyone recommends a certain brand of oil I am open for any suggestions.

A: Car manufacturers use to recommend every 3,000 miles but now some of them are saying your car can go to 5,000 miles before an oil change is needed.

You can order new owners manuals for your vehicle online!

Q: Where can i find a nice easy to install spoiler for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?
Where can i find a nice easy to install spoiler for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?

A: if i were you i would get a Civic Type-R spoiler. i only like to put OEM honda parts wether it be JDM or USDM. either way its easy you just have to find out where to drill the holes :) and when you do find them drill from the outside in not the inside out and put masking tape where your going to drill so it doesnt chip the paint and go slow…unless its like a 99 civic Si trunk where on the inside theres markers where the spoiler holes should be, they are tiny little bubbles in the metal. in that case you can drill from the inside out. but sill put masking tape on the outside…

Q: How much should I sell my 1998 Honda Civic EX for?
1998 Civic EX, 2 door coupe.

It has 150,000 miles. I have had no problems with it. My mom owned it before me, and my grandfather before her.

Cons- Cracked windshield, dent on driver side door and missing door handle.

KBB values it at 4200 in excellent condition.

Does $3,300 sound reasonable?

A: yea try it for $3300 and if no buyers lower it to $3000

Q: how much would it cost to fix the whole front end on a 1998 honda civic EX?
I have a 1998 Honda civic Ex and it got into a car accident and basically the whole front end is needed except for the engine, how much would it be to fix it or is it even worth fixing?

A: 2 grand…prob more.

Q: Whats the differents between a 1998 Honda Civic CXi and a GLi?

Q: Crank Shaft Position Sensor on 1998 Honda Civic?
To all you mechanics, what does it entail to install a crankshaft position sensor on a 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe (manual transmission). I’m not planning on doing the work myself, but i got a quote from a mechanic and i’m seeing if his quote for labor is fair. He’s quoting the part at $49, which checks out with the dealer and 125 for labor. Is this fair?

A: very fair. the honda flat rate time is 1.5 hours for the replacement plus another .6 for diagnosis; most shops work at between $80 and $100 per hour which would be right in the ballpark for your quote which is apparently for the replacement only and no charge for the diagnosis.

hope that helps

Q: 1998 honda civic ex leaking water into passenger side?
I have a 1998 honda civic ex coupe and today it started to drip water from underneath the glove box. I’ve aske around and some have said that it could possibly be the heater core; howvere, it is not leaking antifreeze only water. Any suggestions??? Thanks so much!!

A: If you are running your AC it is the drain it is stopped up and not running out the tube beneath the car. Slide a coat hanger up the tube from under the car very slowly or you can use compressed air and blow it out.

Q: Can I put a nice deck in my 1998 Honda Civic?
Hello, this is my first question so sorry if I look like the new guy haha. I recently got a 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe, I was wondering if I could put a nice new deck in because I have a 6 CD changer in the back and no CD player in the front. Would that affect anything?
Thank you!

A: Who still uses CD players?

If your stereo has a auxiliary connection, just buy an MP3 player or an ipod, transfer all of your CD music over to it and listen to it.
That way you don’t have 10,000 cd’s and cases all over your car.

If you have to put a new deck in, don’t worry about it being 6 disc. They are way more expensive and not worth it in 2010. Spend the extra money on an i-pod, Zune or Sansa.

Q: My 1998 Honda Civic died on me while driving?
My 1998 Honda Civic died on me while driving. I do not have spark at the spark plugs and my battery is only measuring 11.5 volts. does anyone know if I would still get a spark with a low voltage battery, and if so why no spark? I do know I am getting fuel and my timming belt is not broken. Thanks a mill to anyone that can help.
* I tried to jump start but it didn’t work.

A: Without spark it could be ignition coil, distributor, timing skipped, loose wire alternator

Q: How much is a manual trans for a 1998 Honda civic ex swap?
I have a 1998 Honda civic ex with an automatic trans
I was hopeing someone had a rough price of a used one or any ideas where to get on
I would like to do stuff to it and the auto trans won’t help
haha
well thanks for the help

A: Just look around, think outside the box on where to source one.

I’m on the look out for a new motor for my Celica, and in the meantime I’m going to be converting it to manual. After looking around, I have deemed it cheaper to buy an entire write-off car, pull the motor and transmission out of that and then part out the rest of the car.

Alternatively, wreckers might have what you need. Installing the pedal box will be a first for me though, I’ve heard it’s a pain…

Q: Will my 1998 Honda Civic be able to survive a trip from San Diego to Chicago?
I’m planning a road trip from San Diego to Chicago with my 1998 Honda. It has about 88,000 miles and still runs great, but I’m not sure it will make it that far without having complications. Any suggestions, answers, advise? Has anyone attempted this with an older car?

A: I agree with all the above answers. I will add my two cents. If you don’t know how to figure gas millage learn, this way you will always know how long you can drive before stopping for gas. Put one gallon of fuel in the trunk, put a gallon or 2 of coolant in the trunk, put basic hand tools, jumper cables, duct tape and maps in the trunk. Put a couple of quarts of oil in the trunk. Pull a mile or two off the highway for the best gas prices. You can get a basic AAA card for about 60 bucks, if you break down you will be glad you have it. I used to make the trip with a CB radio. Good for finding “bear traps” and conditions ahead. If you hit snow don’t continue, you are a rookie, its dangerous. Wish I could join you. Good luck.

Q: what type of gas for 1998 Honda Civic EX?
i bought a used 1998 Honda Civic EX and it didnt come with an owner’s manual so can someone tell me what grade of gasoline does it take?
just to be clear, the owner’s manual calls for 87 octane??

A: All it needs is regular unleaded, 87 Octane.

Edit: yes, the owner’s manual calls for 87 octane.

Q: What things can I do to a plain 1998 Honda civic?
I just got a new used Honda civic, and I want to make it run fast and be good. I already want to get new rims but other than that I’d like to know what can be done and what really is happening when people soup up there cars.

A: Ok, first performance wise. If you want a high performing honda, usually turbo is the way to go. Now you can not just slap a turbo on there and throw a ton of boost, probably bend a rod or blow a piston out of the block. Do an engine swap, like a B series or possibly the H22 swap if you have the money and time, it has more power. From there you need to build the engine up like bigger pistons, and boring it out, but you want flat top pistons because it lower the compression ratio, which is what you want for an optimal turbo setup and it increases the size of the combustion chamber. You also may want to do some head work like cams and springs and valves. After you get the turbo you will also need to get the car tuned because you are putting a lot more air into the cylinder per intake stroke than before so you need to counter the air with more fuel. From there you also need the basic bolt on’s like a Cold air intake, Headers (if you don’t want a turbo), cat back exhaust, and get hondata (an ecu tuning program). You also will want to make the car a manual transmission if it is an automatic because the real power is the manuals because the automatics are a lot heavier and have a slow throttle response time through the drive train. Then you can do new shocks and lowering springs. Depending on how low you drop it, you will need to get a camber/alignment kit to alter the negative camber which makes the wheels bend inwards and take it to a shop to get aligned. After that you can do new tailights, headlights, possibly H.I.D. with the headlights, the rims you were talking about, you can do a body kit, but personally if you want performance, lowering it is better because you get better handling around turns and if you drop it and get a body kit then it is really low and any pothole will screw all your body kit up. Then you can do you interior like new gauge faces, racing seats, racing steering wheel if you want. Also what a lot of show guys do is they fiberglass the interior dash components and paint a custom color or the actual car color and it looks really good. Hope this points you in the right direction, good luck man.!

Q: What kind of igniton distributor can i use for my 1998 honda civic?
do i neccessarily need one that when i google for it says for honda civic or can i get any run of the mill distributor?

A: a distributor for a 1998 honda civic should work fine.

Q: 1998 Honda Civic DX 2door, 80K, no accident, 1 owner. $5000. Is the price is ok to buy or still expensive?
Recently I would like to buy a used car. 1998 Honda Civic DX 2D, 80K, no accident, 1 owner. The price is $5000. Is the price ok to buy or it is still too expensive? Thank you!

A: Here is something very IMPORTANT that you must always remember. The value of a car always depends on its condition. If this 1998 Civic that you mentioned is in great condition with no mechanical problems, then it is worth more than $5000. Take the car to a mechanic and check it out. A good Civic with 80K miles should last you a lifetime of driving fun. But that all of course depends on the condition of the car and how its taken care of.

Q: What is the best oil to use for 1998 Honda Civic LX with 147,100 miles on it?

A: Just use quality oil of the correct grade and weight for the car. “high mileage oil” and things like that are just sales gimmicks, mostly.

Q: 1998 Honda Civic Coupe exhaust manifold heat shield is rusting. Original (new or used) or after-market?
And what’s the advantage and disadvantage, other than the price difference? Thanks.

A: just take it off…its just there to help the heat travel down instead of going up and to help prevent you from touching the exhaust manifold…

Q: What color does the maintenance light of a 1998 Honda Civic turns when it needs maintenance?

Q: 1998 Honda Civic Coupe exhaust manifold – is it safe to go with after-market? What about a used one?
Found a used one, a bit rusty outside but no cracks. Any way I can remove the rust like painting, oiling it, etc.? I just want it to last longer. Thanks.
Thanks all for your answers.

drewdude – this is an original used part. a honda mechanic said an after market will just be a headache. i know i may have the same problem in the future but a used one cost only a fraction of the new one.

A: Exhaust manifolds, and exhausts in general, rust. There’s no preventing that unless you make it out of Stainless steel, but even then it will still tarnish from the heat. Any paint that you put on it will burn off, and any oil that you put on it will turn to smoke.

Exhaust manifolds are very resilient – most are cast iron and will outlast the rest of the car. If yours is cracked, you can replace it – but just popping another stock exhaust manifold won’t make any difference at all. Keep in mind that you must change the gasket if you take the manifold off.

Is this an aftermarket header, or just another stock one?

Q: How do I disable the car alarm on my 1998 Honda Civic LX?
The car has not been used in 3 years and when I went in to put a new battery in the anti-theft feature kicked in and does not allow me to turn the car on. I no longer have the remote and the manual that came with the car has not any useful information. If I remember correctly the alarm system may have been put in with the dealer but I am not 100% sure.

A: Easy look under steering wheel by brake, gas pedal or by the door where u rest ur left foot look for a switch like a push in type press it down(holding) it and try starting it press the button first the insert key its calledf the valet switch(overide switch too)

Q: 1998 Honda Civic with 279089km on it– will it last?
Hey I got a used car inspection on a 1998 Honda Civic with 279 089km or 173 418 miles on it and originally I thought that the mileage was in kilometers but it’s in miles… I wanted under 200 000km but I’ve already paid the deposit on this car and I like everything else about it… I got a Honda mechanic to do a used car inspection and here were the listed problems:
-Recommend all belts be replaced soon (starting to crack) $280
-Recommend brake flush (fluid dirty) $105
-Recommend transmission service (fluid dirty) $105
-Recommend front brake rotors be machined (vibration when braking) $165
The wind shield also has a small crack and will need new tires before winter…

So with my #1 concern being reliability should I purchase this vehicle despite the high mileage based on what the mechanic said?

A: It depends, my friend had a honda prelude that went to 430,000 miles and kept running, but he did have to replace a lot of stuff. Unless it’s really cheap though I wouldn’t buy it through, it’s still risky and high in miles.
If you want a reliable car try to keep it under 120 K miles if you plan on keeping it for a while. Just would be far less trouble and probably less in inevitable repairs

Q: 1998 Honda civic hard to start in the morning part 2?
My 98 1.6L 170,000 miles LX (d16Y7) civic seems to take twiceas long to start in the morning. I change the batterylast month(14.5 volt while car running, Change sparkplugs, new air filter, new fuel filter, new pcv valvelast week. Replaced wires, cap, rotor last year they look ok and measure within spec. I even use fuel injector cleaner does not seem to help the problem. I also notice that a trace of coolant under the distributor so I change out the heater hose and problem did not go away. That a sensor with one wire on it. What is this sensor anyway? Could that be the problem. I see somemoisture on the wiring boot too. The car drives normal in the afternoon when I leave work. It starts up right away! The engine sounds normal and runs at 34MPG . What can be wrong? Any info will be great. Thanks in advance!

A: have the starter tested

Q: 1998 Honda Civic Power Lock Not Working?
i have a honda civic 1998 LX, the central locking of which has suddenly stopped working. I think its called the Std. Power Door Lock.

When i use the keys to lock the door from the driver side, the other doors wont lock anymore.

The switch on the driver side door which can be used to lock and unlock all the doors has become non functional.

Can somebody tell me the possible cause and cure for this?

A: Possible that the fuse or the relay has gone bad..
Have it checked out!

Q: My 1998 Honda Civic EX turns over, but why won’t it start?
It sat idle for almost a month because I was in the hospital, but I started it up 3 days ago with no issues. Unfortunately, I didn’t drive it. Now it just turns over. I have used quick start, cleaned my points and am about to put in Iridium plugs. The oil light does come on with the ignition switch.

A: main causes fuel pump or relay ignition module (check for spark) or just flooded find the fault before you go replacing parts it gets expensive that way

Q: Will 95 honda civic parts fit on a 98 honda civic?
My 1998 honda civic got hit it the rear it will need a new trunk lid and a rear quarter panel mainly. Maybe a few other things, but thats all im interested in. I found a wrecked 95 honda civic for sale that has all the parts i will need on it, but before I buy it I want to know if those parts would fit my car. They are both a honda civic ex 4 door. Appreciate all help givin.

A: I do not believe it will because it is a different generation.

96-00 Honda Civics are universal to each other, whereas 92-95 Honda Civics are not.

Q: how much would it ruffly cost for me to get a head lite for my 1998 honda civic ex…?
keep in mind that the stat were i live doesnt charge sales tax so idk if that makes a difference….

A: It might be unlikely to get a new head light. You may have to go to a junk yard. You also can’t just buy the outer lens you have to buy the whole head light bezel. They go for about $25.00 and up depending on where you live. It takes about 45 min to remove and install. I don’t know where your from so I can’t give you a labor cost. I live in Ct. and the labor cost is between $65.00 to $175.00 an hour. If you can order one from a dealer ship I don’t think it will be any less than $75.00 and up.

Sincerely yours,
Fred M. Hunter

Q: Looking for used Honda Civic will pay cash!!?
I live in San Jose, Ca and I am looking for a used Honda Civic or Prelude or Accord. Must be 2 door (coupe), with moonroof, all power windows, locks, air conditioning, cruise control, tinted windows, low miles, V6 engine would be nice, maybe white in color or red or silver, automatic would be nice too. Nothing older than 1998. I have $8,000.00 cash in hand! Please answer if you have knowledge of such a vehicle for sale.

A: Well try Yahoo Autos. They will have all sorts of cars that fit your need in your area. They show you pics of the interior, exterior etc. I hope this helps

1998 Honda Civic coupe, 5spd Manual tranny, manual everything, sohc engine, 120,xxx miles, and with some minor customizing/modification/aftermarket stuff.

All work was done by previous owner/s, except for the spoiler and the front and rear strut tower braces, which were done by me. my work is quality but previous owner/s i’m not impressed with. There is a gauge pod with 3 gauges and there is also an aftermarket tach. they were all hooked up when i bought the car, but only the tach and temp gauge worked properly. i don’t think the previous owner/s knew how to wire things properly because a couple of the gauges didn’t read right and also, how ever they had it wired, caused the car to go dead after a couple of days of sitting….. so i cut all of the wires that they had ran to all of the gauges and that fixed the dead battery problem!! lol. i haven’t had time to go through it all and rewire, so it will need redone IF you want them to be functional. I bought the car just to drive it and i wasn’t really concerned with all that extra stuff so it never bothered me. i bought the car for a daily summer time driver for some manual transmission shifting fun!
it will also need a new speedo gear…. somedays it will tell you your speed, other days, not…. lol. should be a cheap fix.
also, the bumpers and the spoiler have been painted (again, prev owners) with i’m guessing spray paint or painted but never clearcoated and buffed…. i’m not sure. those items look fine from a distance and look great at night, but would need resprayed to look really nice.

AFTERMARKET: front bumper, eyebrows, black/chrome rims with 2 matching spare rims, rear spoiler, modified trunk (which is illegal according to the nice policeman, which is why the license plate mounting looks funny – see pics), strut tower braces, cold air intake, muffler. Oh, i’m also running PULSTAR plugs in the engine and it runs GREAT. if you don’t know what those are, look them up… sweet technology.

The car runs and drives VERY nicely and i thoroughly enjoy cruising around in the summer with it…. but i’ve decided to move on from it and get back into Jeeps and 4×4’s. It just has a few minor “cosmetic” issues, but they do NOT affect the driveability/functionality of the car itself. Body condition overa

A: They all look pretty crap to me!

Q: IS this a scam on craigslist for buying a car??/?
I am just going to copy and paste what he wrote me:
I think I covered everything in my ad, but again this is a 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe, with clear title, 100,500 miles on it, 4 Cylinder 1.6 L engine and automatic transmission. Very clean inside and out. The price I want for it is $890. I took an exceptional care of this vehicle and the buyer of the car will be very happy with it. The VIN is 1HGEJ8241WL040632.

The transaction will be closed only through a 3rd party and this way we will both be protected. My time is limited due to my job, so I decided to use the Vehicle Purchase Protection Program offered by eBay Inc. They handle all the paperwork and collection of selling price, and will hold the payment until you verify the civic is as described and want to keep it. I have already enrolled and paid all the ne cessary fees. To begin the transaction I’ll need your full name and shipping address.

Low Miles but a 12 year old car?!
the dealer said he’d include sales tax, registration, license, etc all in the total price. He also told me I can test drive for a few hours and take it to a mechanic. How do I get the dealer to lower the price on the car? It’s OLD I want to pay $4800 for it. I’ve been car searching for SO long and I want a Toyota or Honda Civic.

Q: Can all the internal and external parts of a 1998 honda civic ex be put into the body of a 1996 honda civic ex?
I want to know if the body of the two models are the same. If the parts can all be changed from the 98 to the 96 without any problems

A: In those years, yep. Best thing about Civics, they’re all very interchangeable with each other even between generations, just in some cases you have to know a little bit about body work and fabrication.

Q: 1998 Honda Civic Lx parts?
i live in Toronto, Ontario, and I’m wondering where i can find a windshield for a 98 honda civic?

A: e-bay motors or your local auto glass replacement store.

Q: What parts could I upgrade on my 1998 Honda Civic to get more mpg’s?
I would like to get the most miles per gallon as possible.

A: In addition to some of the gas saving tips in the link below, you might consider upgrading/replacing your clutch disc. Your clutch disc allows your engine to engage with your transmission to permit your wheels to spin. If your clutch disc is worn down, it could slip and you could lose power and mpg.

You should also check the air compression your engine produces in each cylinder through each spark plug. Low compression may indicate that your engine block gaskets have worn down and have leaks which could also result in loss of power and mpg. If all cylinders read about 180psi, then your combustion as far as compression is working at optimal levels.

Good combustion also relies on a good distributor coil that steps up small voltage to very high voltage. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance values across the contact points on your distributor coil, your distributor rotor, distributor cap, and spark plug cables. If your spark plugs at the end of this circuit produces low voltage then your cylinders may not be achieving maximum combustion which can result in lower power and mpg.

Also use a timing gun to make sure the timing marks on your crankshaft pulley are set within specifications. If your marks are adjusted too far behind, your cylinders may be set in an unproductive position for combustion which could result in loss of power and mpg.

Good luck!

Q: How much should it cost Parts and labor to replace a transmission in a 1998 Honda Civic?

A: about the cheapest you could get that done for would be around 1500 bucks ,and that’s with someone doing a real good job on it,and not using cheap parts, this can run all the way up to 2 k if you get a good transmission,l,ll give you a site with them on it,good luck with it.http://www.jasperengines.com/

Q: honda civic parts for sell?
i have a 1998 honda civic and im selling parts i have an exaust manifold with a catilac converter for a 98′ honda civic LX,DX and i have headers and header pipe for the EX modle text me 661-205-1285

A: Yea I agree with the guy above me. You should just sell it on Craigslist or eBay and you might get more potential buyers. Plus your not allowed to advertise sales on Yahoo Answers!

Q: I have a 1998 Honda Civic Hatch DX. Im puttin a h22a in it. Whats a simple parts list for it .?
It comes with:
Jdm motor
Jdm transmission
Distributor, Jdm ECU
Complete Intake Manifold
Alternator
A/C Power Steering Pump
All Brackets and Sensors

What else do i need besides headers

A: COMPLETE enigine wiring harness from a 96-00 prelude, Hasport motor mounts, the AEM hybrid air intake system so you don’t have to relocate the fuel filter, axles made for the swap, shift linkages, and if its not a OBD2 motor then you will need the oil pump, a OBD2 distributor, crank position sensor, and throttle position sensor. Also consider getting a new clutch, water pump, timing belt, and gasket set.

Q: 1998 honda civic lx sedan d16y7 157xxx miles still running strong but want more power?
ok so i just got my 1998 honda civic lx four door i was wondering if d16y8 parts fit into it no problem or is it a waste of money??

A: the y8 does have 20hp over the y7, but you’ll also need to change your ECU because the y8 is a vtec model. a y8 wont have any problems fitting into it, but whats your goal? if you just want a little more HP, put a cold air intake on your y7. you should get about 5-10 more HP out of it and all you have to do is bolt it on. much less of a hassle and several hundred dollars cheaper.

Q: Why would there be oil on the engine of my 1998 honda civic?
My car has been giving off an intense smell, an exhaust smell. I checked the oil and my dipstick was hard to remove and hard to put back in. When I checked it this morning to add some oil there was oil (or what appeared to be oil) all over the engine and other parts under the hood. What could this fluid be and how much should it cost to fix?

Thank you!
There is oil leaking from the bottom of the car. The dip stick appears to be broken as it won’t come out and it shifts around when you try to remove the stick. Any idea how much this will cost to fix?

A: was it fresh oil?? cas if so its a new leak…if its just a build-up of oil oil…..not worth fixing……but start with pcv valve…and maybe valve cover gasket…if u havent changed the pcv valve in a wile its probably stopped up and so crank pressure si pushing oil out of any weak spot in any gasket in ur motor….they part is only 3-4 bucks and needs to b replaced every couple years anc checked once a a year

Q: Do you think a ‘98 Honda Civic with customized parts at 72,800 mileage selling at $5000 a good buy?
I’m selling my 1998 Honda Civic with aftermarket steering wheel, high performance muffler, Euro tail lights, and a new sound system. My mileage is only at 72800. I’m selling it for $5000.

Someone would rather buy a 2000 model car with probably at 90000+ mileage for $4000.

Which is a better buy?

A: These personalized crap mean nothing to anyone except the dopes that get them. I would actually offer LESS because they are garbage.

Q: I am looking for cheap racing seats for a 1998 honda civic?
i want to get them in a pair and also if possible come with the necessary brackets and i want them from maybe $100-150

A: if you get brackets that will fit and not break in a month you will spend your $150 JUST ON THE BRACKETS. Then there are the seats. If you get seats for under $600-$700 per pair you are going to have problems. I don’t know how many people I have seen come into our shop and have broken backs/seat braces on these $100-$250 seats that are on Ebay and sites like that. Do your self a favor and spend the money on the good stuff.

Q: Cheap ways to make 1998 civic look nice/ pimped?
What are some cheap, and or household ways to make my 1998 honda civic look nicer/ pimped
more racer is what i am thinkin
i am not trying to make my car look like its the shiz . just a little better .

A: Easy. Keep it clean and repair any visible damage (obviously) then get some nice light-weight wheels (no chrome!) nothing crazy keep it at 17″ and below, decent tires and MOST IMPORTANT lower the car with some decent springs from H&K or Eibach for example, not some cazy ebay Chinese company (no offense). That’s what I like anyway. Cheers.

Q: Would a Ford F-150 V8 beat a cheap Modded honda civic?
When i was picking up my son from High school i saw a lot of punks trying to race in one of those crappy Honda civics. I was looking at one of those teenagers with their little 1998 honda civic making noise…… by revving their engines…… I was wondering if a Ford F-150 V8 with Flowmaster would beat those crap car.

A: Yes, those imports have NO torque at all, the Ford V-8 creates 300 foot founds of torque, versus 100 from the tiny import…. you would leave them in the dust by far.

Q: how do i know what kind of stereo to buy for my 1998 honda civic 4 door sedan? and is it easy to install?
my stereo got stolen recently but the wire plug thing is fine and so is the little audio looking plug thing. i really know nothing about this but i would really like to get a new cheap stereo asap! how do i know what kind of stereo to get like if it will fit my car and all that and are they easy to install or would i have to pay to get it installed? thanks!

i drive a 98 honda civic 4 door sedan if that helps.

A: Any of these units below will fit your car:
They also have a video to show you how to install it on the home page of this site..

Q: Keep my 1998 Honda Civic or buy a new car?
I have a 1998 Honda Civic with 168,000 miles. The car is paid for and is starting to have some issues. It broke down in Feb and it cost $400. It is in the shop now and I’m not quite sure what is wrong with it yet. My dilemna…do I:

A. Keep the civic and get the work done. I may need more repairs down the line…timing belt, shocks, ???…who knows. This route will be the cheapest but provides the most uncertainty with reliability and repairs.

B. Sell the old one for around $2,000-$3,000 and use this as a down payment. Get a new Civic and not have to worry about the repairs… the payment would be around $200/month. This route is the most expensive and has the most certainty.

C. Get the car fixed for now (depending on how much it will cost)…save a bunch of money for a down payment, hope that nothing else goes wrong with the car and try to sell the civic in 3-6 months. This option proves a little risky as well.

What would you do?
Other work that has not been done yet includes: Clutch, water pump, Cat converter…not sure when these might go.

A: The rule of thumb is that if you are expecting to put more than $2,000 into the car over the next 12 months, then you should get a new car.
I don’t know what maintenance has been done to the car in the past or what needs to be done (except timing belt and shocks), but I am guessing at 168,000 miles, you are also in need of a new water pump, maybe a transmission/clutch (or at least a transmission flush), radiator flush, and anything else that may go wrong with a car with that many miles.

I have heard of Civic’s going 300,000 miles+, but every car is different. If you are taking it to the mechanic every couple of months, not only is it expensive, but also time consuming.

Personally, if you can get a new Civic for $200 a month, I would do it. You have a much better looking car, piece of mind, and you won’t spend your time in a repair shop.

- Clutch will run about $600
- Timing Belt will run about $300
- Since it is an old Civic, the exhausts and extension pipe usually go about every 3 years, so that will be about $250.
- Water Pump will be about $150 (if you keep the car fix this when the timing belt is changed and you will save on labor).
- Shocks will run you at least $300.

That is over $1500 right there….plus, your time is worth something, I am sure. Get the new car if it is financially possible for you. This car has served its purpose. You only live once. $200 a month won’t bankrupt you. Just make sure you call your agent and check what the insurance rates on the new one will be before you buy….just to be safe.

Q: Exhaust Manifold for a 1998 Honda civic lx?
I have been looking online (because it is cheaper) and it is pretty cheap, but my main concern is of to will work and fit, and what all I need to buy, also some of them talk about the California emission standards, being I live in Ca what would happen? And help would be very muck appreciated

A: As long as you have the correct engine and vehicle information, you should have no trouble getting the correct part. Since you live in CA, chances are pretty good that it has California emissions. To be sure however (yes there is a difference), take a look at the underside of the hood. There should be a sticker that says “This vehicle conforms to the CALIFORNIA (or) FEDERAL emissions for 1998. If it says Federal and the word California is NOT on there, then it is not a CA car. If you see the word CALIFORNIA, then it is a Cali car.

Q: 1998 Honda Civic Ex Coupe – Worth buying with 130,000 miles?
I am in desperation for a cheap used car and I have had great experiences with Hondas and just need a work car that gets me from point A to point B. There is this 1998 Honda Civic Ex Coupe with 130,000 miles on it for $2,400 (my low ass price range is $1500-$3000). Not too familiar with cars so if it isn’t the best what else is out there for that crappy price range? I guess anything that will get me to work and back and won’t die on me will be best =/

A: Honda’s are great little cars but a car that would last you longer and get better gas mileage would be an older toyota. They are great little cars and you can get one really cheap. I have a 89 toyota Celia that gets 34 mpg , i paid $500 for it, never had anything go wrong with it, and has 296,xxx miles on it. These cars Can Go Forever!!!

Q: How to fix a cracked manifold in an 1998 Honda Civic DX?!?
Hello. So I bought a car and took it to a mechanic.. they said the manifold was cracked ( I knew this from the beginning) and that it would be an expensive fix. and I said well, does it have to be fixed or is it just a “if I don’t mind the noise it doesn’t matter things” then he said…no if you don’t mind it, it doesn’t need to be.

He also said it would cost $1200 or so to fix it because it included the catalytic converter and everything. Now I’ve been doing my research on what can be done to actually fix it but I’m not good with all this ‘car talk’

Can I just replace the manifold on this model?
Is it all one piece (ie manifold, converter etc) and it all has to be replaced?
can I get the part offline for cheap (and which part)?
Can I get a used one?
Is there any other ways of fixing it? (welding is expensive apparently so I’m not going to bother with that one)
How long does it take to ‘fix’ at the shop?

Please help!

ps… I’m from canada so pricing is going to be different from USA, if you mention a price please tell me if it’s USD.

THANKS!! I truly appreciate any help.
Ps… I’m on a budget! Just trying to save money but actually fix the problem.

But I definitely want to know if there are any other cheap, temp/perm fixes too!

thanks!

A: there is an exhaust, and there is an intake manifold, if that is a small engine front wheel drive, then everything is kind of wound around on top of other parts, and you have to dissasemble a bunch of things to replace the exhaust manifold. and yes, your mechanic was straight with you, driving it it is noisy, but unless the temperature gets 20 degrees below zero, you will not hurt a valve, ( you may smell exhaust from the leak, so keep the fresh air flowing, as far as a used one, its likely no better than what you have now, and its common for them to crack from the heating up and cooling off cycle, someone got me hot, then cooled me off several thousand times, I would crack eventually too. as far as shop times, or price, it is going to vary from make model and year. you can buy a shop manual for that car, it will tell you how to fix something, and tell you how many hours, and what other parts you need.
can you find it somewhere cheaper? maybe, but consider this, your current mechanic, told you right, it is noisy, but it can wat for awhile, keep that in mind, many other mechanics would have blown smoke where the sun dont shine on that . save your money, get it done right, the first time, get it done, ONCE. BEST OF LUCK!!

Q: Keep my Honda Civic or buy a Newer car?
I have a 1998 Honda Civic with 168,000 miles. The car is paid for and is starting to have some issues. It broke down in Feb and it cost $400. It is in the shop now and I’m not quite sure what is wrong with it yet. My dilemna…do I:

A. Keep the civic and get the work done. I may need more repairs down the line…timing belt, shocks, ???…who knows. This route will be the cheapest but provides the most uncertainty with reliability and repairs.

B. Sell the old one for around $2,000-$3,000 and use this as a down payment. Get a Newer Civic (2005) and not have to worry about the repairs… the payment would be around $200/month. This route is the most expensive long term and has the most certainty.

C. Get the car fixed for now (depending on how much it will cost)…save a bunch of money for a down payment, hope that nothing else goes wrong with the car and try to sell the civic in 3-6 months. This option proves a little risky as well.

What would you do?

A: I never liked the idea of trading in a car you used for another used car. Even when when that say it’s “certified preowned”. You may run into problems the previous owner didn’t want to deal with either. Imagine your paying your monthly car payment and suddenly you need to repair something for $300. You may not be able to fix the problem because you just made a car payment.

You will have to deal with the wear and tear items (brakes, struts, etc.) but at least you can deal with them easier with no car payments to make. Plus, I think you got a lot of miles left if you took care of the car.

Q: How do you make a Honda Civic accelerate faster and/or smoother?
I own a 1998 Honda Civic EX with Automatic transmission, low miles, but NO VTECH. I want to modify the setup with something else that will be simple to install, or cheap to install that will give out a better acceleration. Right now, I am happy with its performance so far, but just gotta have more power, baby.. Maybe a cold air intake? (I have no clue how THAT works, fill me in) Maybe physically taking the engine apart and cleaning the crap out of its insides? Maybe changing its fuel injectors? I am currently replacing the Spark Plugs with ones called “Autolite Double Platinum, APP5244″ with 0.44 Gap.

A: Since your starting with that platform i’m going to guess your not ready to throw down the cash needed for “turbo kit, bigger injectors, exhaust hood(wtf?) blow off valve(another wtf?)”. You just want to drop small cash and due to your line of questioning i’m also going to guess your not a mechanic yourself which means paying someone to do all your work. That gets real expensive. But if you want to do a few reasonably cheap mods to get a little more out of your car, I would first get a better flowing exhaust. It sounds more aggressive and allows the engine to breath a little better. Don’t drop the cash on a kit though, it will cost you more. Instead go to a muffler shop and tell them what you want. It will be cheaper and most any reputable shop will give you a much better finished product. The next item would be a better intake. A cold air intake is better than a factory design and it looks cooler when you open the hood. The filters flow more air and the intake itself will be smoother so you get more air in. I don’t remember the factory plug gap setting but don’t change it from stock. You will only hurt performance.
the last thing is for Man, torque does not create horsepower. They are 2 different things.

Q: are there any websites that sell good cheap headers?
im looking to buy headers for my 1998 honda civic ex any places besides ebay where i can buy em for cheap are is there any good ones on ebay for cheap

A: Megan racing has a good one for a good price…. And its a header, V6 engines have headers..

Q: Can anyone suggest aftermarket speakers?
I just installed an aftermarket CD receiver (JVC KD-G430) and am wanting to upgrade my speakers. Does anyone have knowledge in this field so as to suggest a certain brand/model that would go well with this receiver (taking into consideration wattage, output, etc.)? I’m just looking for 4 basic and somewhat cheap speakers for a 1998 Honda Civic Sedan w/o keyless entry. Anything would be appreciated and I’ll award a best answer.

A: JL audio and Kicker are two of my favorite companies for both subwoofers, and regular speakers for cars. They offer many diffferent kinds for different prices, so you may be able to find something from them in your price range, if you do, they will sound awesome.
If those are just too expensive, check out Infinity, and Polk audio, they are two very good companies that are usually a little less expensive but still great quality.
If you really want the absolute best sounding system, then look into the component system, which offers a speaker, tweeter and crossovers to help power them, they are great, but on the expensive side. Check out crutchfield.com And if all else fails go to your local car audio store, or tweeter or best buy and ask a young looking person working there what they suggest, they probably know a lot.

A: Go to the Honda store….

Q: Is the Scion tc a good and reliable car?
I currently own a 1998 Honda Civic and I’m looking to buy a new car. I heard the Scion tc is a good choice since I’m a young driver, and it’s also cheap. If you own one is it a reliable car and also does it get good gas mileage? Thanks in advance.

A: i own a 2010 scion tc…it really is a good choice…the options are endless…idk about u but i want something with its own individuality…thats what scion is all about…they are very cheap…its like the best buy out there….where else can you find a panoramic sunroof at this price? the pioneer system will rattle your car and thats just stock….the engine is well built and very reliable…it will really get up and go….alot of ppl bash the scion tc…i think simply because they know its potential…if u want a great car…the scion tc is the way to go….i recently drove about 200 miles with my scion tc….(with a/c blowing and i have a heavy foot) i had a little over a 1/4 of a tank left…which is actually not bad considering it only takes around 30 dollars to fill up……basically,,,,,this car is a great choice…

Q: where can i get good?

Q: Where can I buy a 1998 Manual transmission Honda Civic within 150 mile radius of Bolivar Missouri?
I need a 1998 Honda Civic Coupe Mannual transmission that is less than $6,000 or $6,999 any thing lower would be fine. Just needs to be within 150 miles of Bolivar, Missouri.Zip(65613)

A: Ebay, retard.

Q: If I buy a 1998 honda civic with 133,000 miles for $2895…?
Is this a good buy? I’m in the process of buying my first car so your answers are appreciated. Thank you.

A: Baring anything being wrong with it, it sounds like a really good price.

Also per page 142 of the owner’s manual, the timing belt should have been replaced at 105,000 miles [rather than 90,000 which was recommended for some time for older models]

Q: what is the solution for rust in the bottom parts of honda civic 1998.?
I buy honda civic 1998, but i find that all parts in the bottom of car are rusty. also there is a sound from wheels when i use brake????????????? help me what should i do??

A: for rust removal & repair, check out KBS.

Q: what is the fastest engine that you could buy for a 1998 Honda civic ex?

A: Ok this is just like the 96-99 Sentra, they had a 200sx which was the SE-R the the old days. the biggest they had was a 2.0L SR20DE engine which spat about 140 horses.

Since you have a civic, I don’t think you should go beyond a 2.0L. Originally you have a 1.6L (although i am not sure if you have a 106 HP or the 127 HP VTEC). Either way its not bad very fuel efficient engines if you maintain them properly.

Now the fastest and the biggest engine you can put for a 4 cylinder is from a Honda Prelude. Their biggest engine was a 2.2L with around 185 to 220 HP. you would also require a transmission change from the prelude as well. Not only prelude but you can also put bigger engines from the new Civic Si, Acura RSX.

Honestly the new civic si would be a better option despite the fact that there are many aftermarket parts available + hope you know how to drive a stick, its worth it.

You can put a V6 in a civic as well, some have done it but its alot of work. wouldn’t recommend it.

Civic Si Acura RSX Honda Prelude

These are the engines you should be looking towards and make sure you change your transmission.

Good luck!!!

Q: Is better to buy a brand new Kia Rio under warranty or buy a 1998-2002 Honda Civic with 80,000-100,000 miles?

A: And the answer is….a 10-20000 mile used car coming out of fleet service, these cars are eligible for manufacturers service contracts which always use NEW parts to cover any service claim, not used or rebuilt—-CARMAX service policy, and most other non factory.
You should find a very fuel efficient dependable car, might have to search a bit for an import since most do business with U.S. manufacturers, but regard less the best buy

Q: What is a good body kit for a 1998 honda civic while still maintaining good ground clearance?
Looking to buy a honda civic between 1996-2000 and need to find good body kits that i wont tear up from them being to low to the ground. I would like about 5-6 inches of clearance if possible. I need everything, front and rear bumper and side skirts. Help!
go by a 1998 civic EX coupe

A: if i were you, i will just put a front under spoiler… believe me its great!

Q: what type of gas for 1998 Honda Civic EX?
i bought a used 1998 Honda Civic EX and it didnt come with an owner’s manual so can someone tell me what grade of gasoline does it take?

A: All it needs is regular unleaded, 87 Octane.

Edit: yes, the owner’s manual calls for 87 octane.

Q: Toyota Corolla 2000 vs Honda Civic 1998?
Hi
I have the option of buying a 1998 Honda Civic EX(85,000 miles) or a Toyota Corolla 2000(85,500 miles). After reading reviews on edmunds, the Corolla has worse reviews.

Anybody has any hands on experience with these cars?
Any advise would be appreciated

A: I think, Honda Civic is better and more powerful.

Q: Iam looking to buy a honda civic vti 18i (1998-9model) good or bad move please help ?

A: Very good car, bulletproof engine, plenty around that have had mature owners & will have been fully serviced & cherished. Ring around Honda dealers or check their website: A lot of people are very regular customers & part ex one Honda for another – at ten years old, a dealer won’t want to sell these cars themselves & should let them go pretty cheaply.
The 1.8VTi 5 door UK built Civic has 167bhp. It has very similar 0-60 performance to the Jap built 3 door 157bhp 1.6VTi (8 secs) but will do a good 10mph faster at the top end.

Q: Which to buy? 1997 Toyota Camry or 1998 Honda Civic?
Hello I am about to purchase a car for my girlfriend, and we are deciding between a 97 Camry LE and a 98 Civic LX. Both cars are priced exactly the same at around $3000. They are both in great shape and have about 140,000 miles. I would like to hear from people who have experience with either car. I would especially like to know if these cars, (being 10 years old) could be trusted on road trips. And finally, do you think these are good prices? Thanks for your help in advance!

A: I’ve owned a few civics and they can’t be beat. I’ve gotten over 250K on two (2001 & 1995), and a third one (1997) has 360K and still going strong. My 97 Civic has only had the clutch & 02 sensor replaced. You do have to make sure that the timing belt is changed per Honda instructions and the oil changed religiously. I think that is the key to their longevity. Camry’s are good, but their gas mileage is not as great. You also have to factor in that the Camry is roomier and does have a better ride than a civic.

Q: I have a 1998 honda civic dx d16y7?
I have a 1998 Honda civic dx d16y7 looks like the catalytic converter is welded onto the manifold, the manifold I got online has a bolt pattern and my manifold does not have any bolts it looks like it is welded right onto the manifold, my question is do i now need to buy a catalytic converter to complete my set?

A: They sell universal catalytic converters that don’t have bolts. Just cut off the old one and weld on the universal. If you can’t do that yourself then you can buy the manifold and cat all one piece from the dealer but you will pay a lot

Q: What alternator do I need? 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe – 4 pin? 3 pin?
I am looking for an alternator for my 1998 Honda Civic EX coupe…

The hardest thing to do is find one online, for an OK price ($70 – $130, not including core, high output, 130 amp, 150 amp, or 170 amp)

The problem is that I do not know how many pins I need. I need to decide between 3 and 4 pins. I guess I am getting a reman alternator because the new ones are way too expensive.

If you have answers to either questions please please tell me where the best place is to find something like that. THANKS!!

(I blew my alt and battery because I have a 1200 watt amp, idk)

A: I looked at www.advanceautoparts.com and it shows it being a 4 pin. Their prices vary between $110 and $180.

I don’t know a lot about the bad effects of amps, and stereo systems … but if everything is wired correctly, should your amp mess your alternator and battery up?

I would think that in the worst case scenario it would pull more current than your alternator can put out causing it and the battery to die. With higher wattage systems, it puts more demand on the cars electrical system … so I guess it could cause the diodes inside the alternator to give out after a while.

I would do one of the following:

1. Replace alternator and battery with the OEM ones, and keep the bass turned down.

2. Upgrade the alternator to a higher output and replace the battery with a higher output one.

I would even consider adding a capacitor if you don’t already have one. Then maybe even order a ground wire kit for your motor.

Hope that helps some. It always sucks when you have to spend more money, but at least you won’t have to worry about it again.

Q: 1998 Honda Civic ex transmission ?
how much would a standard transmission cost for this honda… where can i look at them online?

A: U could prob get them cheaper out of a salvage yard. or ebay…craigslist an so on. but on average bout 100-300 bucks depending where u get it

Q: Cost to replace catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensor in 1998 Honda Civic LX?
My check engine light came on about two months ago and I haven’t had the time or money to get it into a shop to fix it. I have, however, done a lot of research online and figured out the light could be caused by at least one of two things: the catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor. I will take it to Auto Zone within the week to have a reading done on it (not the psychic kind) so I will be able to find out what is wrong with it officially. But in the meantime I thought I’d pose the question as to how MUCH it could end up costing me. I have heard that it could be as much as $1000 or as little as $100-500 to buy the part and have it installed. Can anyone (preferrably a mechanic) tell me around how much I am looking at spending? Thanks!

A: Catalytic converters can be fairly pricey. You’ll probably be looking at arount 300-500 just for the part plus the shop time of around an hour to an hour and a half around so 80-150 at a dealership. The O2 sensor will run around 80-130 and then the shop time on that as well…around half hour, so 40-50 bucks. So all said and done, around 800 bucks.

Q: is the 1998 mitsubishi eclipse good? Are camaro’s good? Honda civic?
they are selling me a mitsubishi eclipse year 9c it looks amazing from the outside and the inside looks really good too but I don’t know much about cars. Are this cars reliable and decent. Also saw some camaros and honda civics online are they goods? Thx also what car would you reccomend

A: The Camaro is in another class compared to the Eclipse and Honda, especially the LS1 Z28 or SS. I have a 95 Eclipse RS and from the week of purchase till now its been nothing but trouble. Head gasket, o ring, cooling tubes, and tires have blown and been replaced. Long and behold its in the shop right now getting its fuel pump replaced since that too broke two days ago… Ill have it back tomorrow. Ive only had this car for 6 months and this is everything thats happened plus the clutch is grinding now. We had a 2000 Civic before the Eclipse but we wrecked and had to get the latter. No problems with the Civic besides it being slow.

Q: I need tips with making my honda civic better!?

Alright, so I kinda looked a little more and I keep getting something JDM?

A: Ok, to start of with the JDM stands for japanese domestic market, but it used in the tuner world as a term for ”JDM style”, which is modifying the car with subtle japanese parts. the one in your pictures is JDM styled. JDM parts means they come from japan, and are often found standard on the japanese spec cars.

Parts, the civic in the picture has the following

Standard front facelift bumper with mugen/jun style front lip
JDM Civic VTi front fog/spot lights
”Championship white” re-spray (standard JDM civic/integra type-R colour)
door mirrors, trim, side skirts sprayed white
front window wind deflectors
Carbon fibre bonnet
Not sure on wheels, but considered JDM stlye, ie. not big 18” chrome wheels
suspension lowered
badgeless ”ek9 style” grill
roll cage
Red EK9 recaro sports seats

as far as i can tell thats all!

Q: wat size rims goes good with a 98 civic?
Im getting rims for my 1998 honda civic ex coupe and my dad says that 17’s would be to big so he says i should get 16’s but i just saw a car online thts my car and it has 18s and looks good so wat should i get??

A: Your Dad’s right. I wouldn’t go any bigger than 16″.

17″ or 18″ on that car is just asking for trouble. They’ll attract thieves, not to mention crappy ride and expensive new set of tires you’re gonna need every 20K or 30K.

Get something reasonable in 15″ or 16″, but get good tires with them. That’ll give you decent upgrade in ride quality without breaking the bank.

Q: 1998 driver side interior door panel?
where can I get a driver side interior door panel for a 1998 honda civic dx. My panel is brittle and cracking. Please help. some place online.
I know how to search the internet. Now what I want to know is, is there some site that is hard to find or I dont know about because I could not find anything. Please do not post stupid answers such as try searching the internet or try google. That does not help peple. Thanks

A: try jcwhitney, or google, interior car parts dot com

Q: What paint/supplies do I need to paint my bumper cover?
Ok so cracked up my bumper… Going to buy a new one online and paint it with my buddies paint sprayer. What type of paint should I buy? I have a 1998 Honda Civic? I mean I have the color code and stuff but I know there are like different kinds… Do I need hardener??? All that stuff… Thanks!

A: you need sandpaper, primer, body filler and paint. the hardener comes with the body filler when you buy it. i fixed a honda last fall like that and it,s still holding.

Q: Whats wrong with my 1998 Honda Prelude? I have a Catalytic Efficiency code…?
I have seen this code before. When I first bought the car I put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in my tank and WHAM! the light came on. The code was Catalytic Converter efficiency. They cleared it and I did not see it again for over a year (about 20k miles). So, about a month ago I put another bottle in, hoping a different brand would not cause the same problem. Sure enough, as soon as I started driving the light came on. I understand, you dont keep doing things you know the result to if you dont like it, so I had them check the code and clear it, same thing. Only this time, a week later (200 miles), the light is back on. I have a 2 in Magnaflow 53004 I bought for a civic, and I never used it, will it work on my car? Also, I ran across a post online that said to check for a PCV stuck open (what is that?, how do I check? Also read to drive the MIL off? Whats that? How do I turn it off? Is this all the result of a faulty O2 sensor? Check for leakage onto harness sensor? Where? Thanks!
I cleared the code and it did not come back on again. I even added some premium “Preston Complete Fuel System Cleaner”, its FREE after rebate, with a full tank and it didnt even come back on. How much should I expect to pay for a new catalytic converter? Is this hurting my fuel economy?

A: What that code is saying is ‘everything on the engine is operating as expected, but the downstream O2 sensor is seeing a richer than normal reading coming out of the catalytic converter. This usually means the converter is failing. I would have the code cleared and see if it comes back later on, but eventuially the converter will need replacing>

Q: 185/65/14 tires vs 185/70/14 tires?
I got a set of snow tires (Michelin X-Ice XI2) for my 1998 honda civic coupe. The stock tire size is 185/65/14. The set of snow tires I got are 185/70/14. Based on online tire calculatores, the difference in diameters is bout 3%. Is my new set of snow tires ok to use on my car?

A: Yes the difference is negligible.
The stock size is 23.4″ and the snow tires are 24.1″ so were are talking about roughly 3/4″ height difference, you’ll be fine.

Q: Is a door lock assembly same as actuator?
My mechanic has advised me to order a door lock assembly for my 1998 Honda Civic. I have power locks, and my driver’s side door will not open without him having to use a Sawzall to open it, and he will have to replace the lock. While looking online, I see lots of power lock actuators. Can anyone tell me if this is what I need? Is there a difference between a lock assembly and a lock actuator? I have already ordered and received the striker, because that is what will have to be sawed to get the door opened. HELP!

A: WTF kind of mechanic are you working with there hun…….if he was any kind of a decent mechanic hewouldn’t have to use a sawzall to get your door open….there are other ways to accomplish this without damaging your car in any way…….personally I would question what is actually wrong as this guy obviously has no idea what he is doing………more likely it is nothing more than a loose rod in the door causing it to not open!!!!
BOTTOM LINE: take it to another mechanic to check out and open your door the proper way!!!!!!

PS: the actuator is what makes the electric locks work…..the lock assembly is the actual assembly that your key goes into!!!!!
