Q: What color does the maintenance light of a 1998 Honda Civic turns when it needs maintenance?
I have a 1998 Honda Civic LX and i have this little square on the cluster and its the stock cluster and underneath it is says “maintenance required” and it used to be black in color, but now its kind of red. I am just wondering if anyone would know if thats the maintenance required light in a 98 Honda Civic LX?
A: You are correct – when it’s red, the light is “on” meaning that the OBD code reader needs to be hooked up (done for free at some auto parts stores) and the codes viewed to indicate the repairs needed
Q: best ways to tune a 1998 honda civic ex?
I have a 1998 honda civic ex, and i was woundering what are some tips to help quicken it up, i already have a cold air intake on it but am not sure what else to do to it.
A: First step is to finish up the breathing… header, cat and exhaust. If you don’t mind a little white knuckle turning in parking lots then bypass the power steering and in the cold season bypass the a/c. If it is an auto then swap out the transmission for manual and when you do that put on a lightweight flywheel and/or clutch. Definitely try to get rid of some weight, it can be free and will improve every aspect of your vehicles performance, and make sure to stay away from large rims because they are heavier unless you spend a lot of money on lightweight ones. You could also do carbon fiber parts, lightweight windows, under drive pulleys, camshaft, im, im gasket, wrap the header, tb, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, engine swap, built head, nos and so on.
Nos is a nice option for extra power at the push of a button, some will tell you it will burn up your engine but guess what… so will your right foot. If you are responsible with nos it can be fine, you could probably get away with a 35 shot safely on stock internals.
Chipping it would be an improvement but you want to do that after you are content with the rest of your mods so that the chip is tuned properly… DON’T BUY OFF EBAY FOR CHIPS, have a reputable shop do it, best option would be to have a knowledgable shop put it on a dyno and tune it right, that will probably earn you about 7 whp. ebay chip = 0-5 whp or maybe even worse than stock if your unlucky.
It all depends on your budget and how fast you wanna go.
Q: Where can i find a good body kit for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?
I just bought a Black 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX and wanted to know here i could purchase a good body kit for it?
A: Justin, whats your budget? Reason why I ask is because you do not have to spend thousands of dollars on a body kit from Japan for your 96-98 Civic (EK) Hatch such as Air Walker, Back Yard Special, C-Westin, J’s Racing, ETC., you can pay a fraction of that by buying a replica body kit manufactured by VIS Racing, Duraflex, companies like this already have (Cwestin, Buddy Club, Air Walker) style made for your vehicle. I personally have a VIS kit on my Nissan and am very happy w/ it, I made my purchase through http://www.iatuner.com/ and they gave me my VIS Vertex style kit for an awesome price. Hope this information helps.
Q: Is it possible to swap a automatic trans for a manual trans on a 1998 Honda civic ex?
I have a 1998 Honda civic with 80,000+ miles on it and it has an automatic trans
I would like to do stuff to it and a manual trans is need. Is it possible to swap them?

A: Yea buddy, it’s easily possible. You will need a new transmission, new foot pedals, a new shifter and a mechanic with a lot of patience! It’s time consuming, but it can be done!
Q: 1998 Honda Civic EX Oil Change Intervals?
I bought my 1998 Honda Civic with about 98k miles, and it didn’t come with any owner’s manual. So I am not sure what is the recommended mileage for changing the oil? I know I use 5W-30 oil, cause that what it says on the oil cap. And if anyone recommends a certain brand of oil I am open for any suggestions.
A: Car manufacturers use to recommend every 3,000 miles but now some of them are saying your car can go to 5,000 miles before an oil change is needed.
You can order new owners manuals for your vehicle online!
Q: Where can i find a nice easy to install spoiler for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?
Where can i find a nice easy to install spoiler for my 1998 Honda Civic Hatchback DX?
A: if i were you i would get a Civic Type-R spoiler. i only like to put OEM honda parts wether it be JDM or USDM. either way its easy you just have to find out where to drill the holes
and when you do find them drill from the outside in not the inside out and put masking tape where your going to drill so it doesnt chip the paint and go slow…unless its like a 99 civic Si trunk where on the inside theres markers where the spoiler holes should be, they are tiny little bubbles in the metal. in that case you can drill from the inside out. but sill put masking tape on the outside…
Q: How much should I sell my 1998 Honda Civic EX for?
1998 Civic EX, 2 door coupe.
It has 150,000 miles. I have had no problems with it. My mom owned it before me, and my grandfather before her.

Q: Crank Shaft Position Sensor on 1998 Honda Civic?
To all you mechanics, what does it entail to install a crankshaft position sensor on a 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe (manual transmission). I’m not planning on doing the work myself, but i got a quote from a mechanic and i’m seeing if his quote for labor is fair. He’s quoting the part at $49, which checks out with the dealer and 125 for labor. Is this fair?
A: very fair. the honda flat rate time is 1.5 hours for the replacement plus another .6 for diagnosis; most shops work at between $80 and $100 per hour which would be right in the ballpark for your quote which is apparently for the replacement only and no charge for the diagnosis.
hope that helps
Q: 1998 honda civic ex leaking water into passenger side?
I have a 1998 honda civic ex coupe and today it started to drip water from underneath the glove box. I’ve aske around and some have said that it could possibly be the heater core; howvere, it is not leaking antifreeze only water. Any suggestions??? Thanks so much!!
A: If you are running your AC it is the drain it is stopped up and not running out the tube beneath the car. Slide a coat hanger up the tube from under the car very slowly or you can use compressed air and blow it out.
Q: Can I put a nice deck in my 1998 Honda Civic?
Hello, this is my first question so sorry if I look like the new guy haha. I recently got a 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe, I was wondering if I could put a nice new deck in because I have a 6 CD changer in the back and no CD player in the front. Would that affect anything?
Thank you!
A: Who still uses CD players?
If your stereo has a auxiliary connection, just buy an MP3 player or an ipod, transfer all of your CD music over to it and listen to it.
That way you don’t have 10,000 cd’s and cases all over your car.
If you have to put a new deck in, don’t worry about it being 6 disc. They are way more expensive and not worth it in 2010. Spend the extra money on an i-pod, Zune or Sansa.
Q: My 1998 Honda Civic died on me while driving?
My 1998 Honda Civic died on me while driving. I do not have spark at the spark plugs and my battery is only measuring 11.5 volts. does anyone know if I would still get a spark with a low voltage battery, and if so why no spark? I do know I am getting fuel and my timming belt is not broken. Thanks a mill to anyone that can help.
* I tried to jump start but it didn’t work.
A: Without spark it could be ignition coil, distributor, timing skipped, loose wire alternator
Q: How much is a manual trans for a 1998 Honda civic ex swap?
I have a 1998 Honda civic ex with an automatic trans
I was hopeing someone had a rough price of a used one or any ideas where to get on
I would like to do stuff to it and the auto trans won’t help
haha
well thanks for the help
A: Just look around, think outside the box on where to source one.
I’m on the look out for a new motor for my Celica, and in the meantime I’m going to be converting it to manual. After looking around, I have deemed it cheaper to buy an entire write-off car, pull the motor and transmission out of that and then part out the rest of the car.
Alternatively, wreckers might have what you need. Installing the pedal box will be a first for me though, I’ve heard it’s a pain…
Q: Will my 1998 Honda Civic be able to survive a trip from San Diego to Chicago?
I’m planning a road trip from San Diego to Chicago with my 1998 Honda. It has about 88,000 miles and still runs great, but I’m not sure it will make it that far without having complications. Any suggestions, answers, advise? Has anyone attempted this with an older car?
A: I agree with all the above answers. I will add my two cents. If you don’t know how to figure gas millage learn, this way you will always know how long you can drive before stopping for gas. Put one gallon of fuel in the trunk, put a gallon or 2 of coolant in the trunk, put basic hand tools, jumper cables, duct tape and maps in the trunk. Put a couple of quarts of oil in the trunk. Pull a mile or two off the highway for the best gas prices. You can get a basic AAA card for about 60 bucks, if you break down you will be glad you have it. I used to make the trip with a CB radio. Good for finding “bear traps” and conditions ahead. If you hit snow don’t continue, you are a rookie, its dangerous. Wish I could join you. Good luck.
